Name question
DH and I have come closer on deciding DD's name. This is good news since we are having a hard time this time!
We are close to deciding on Sarina Rebecca
or
Serena Rebekah
Do you think that Sarina is too obscure a spelling? When I look at name lists it seems that Sarina is not that far down. I prefer the meaning of Sarina over Serena.
Which spelling do you prefer?

Re: Name question
I love the spelling of Serena so much better but I also like rebecca spelling instead. Both names spelled the other way just seem odd to me. And I would try not to get overly concerned about meanings. They don't make the person- most people dont even know what their names mean.

Thanks for the input. In our culture the meaning and origin of the name is pretty important - a name is considered very powerful so I guess I am wrapped up in the meaning/origin a bit!

Re: Name question
I like either Sarina or Serena with Rebecca, spelled traditionally. Sarina is one of those names that I never know how to spell, so I like either!

Re: Name question
I prefer the spelling Serena, but kind of dig Rebekah with a K.
Does changing the spelling of Sarina to Serena change the meaning? I'm very into name meanings, so this might change my vote.

Ditto.
The people I know with "different" spellings hate it.

Re: Name question
i prefer Serena.
I have an non-traditional spelling of my name and HATE it b/c I always have to correct people. Since her middle name spelling isn't going to be traditional, I'd go with the traditional spelling of the 1st name. Less correcting for her to do in the future.

Re: Name question
I actually prefer Sarina and, until Gossip Girl , was unaware of the Serena spelling.
My vote is Sarina Rebecca
ETS: The sole issue I see with the Sarina spelling is people, when viewing the name, may inadvertently add a "B" and call her Sabrina. But I feel like everyone has one of those names - one that can be something else (I'm constantly Irene and Elaine; my DH Brett is Brad and Jeremy (?!)).

Re: Name question
I've actually never ever seen Sarina!
For that reason, I'd go with Serena and I like Rebecca.
I will say, I have an unusual hispanic name that gets butchered alllll the time, plus gets misspelled constantly and I have always hated it so much (I love my name, I just HATE having to spell it, pronounce it, etc etc ad nauseum).
For that reason, we went with a known name for DS that wasn't too common, but won't get misspelled. We hope to do the same with baby #2.

Re: Name question
I love the name. Sounds pretty. My thoughts...
Given the "short" time I know you, I actually like Serena Rebekah better. It fits better with your last name, DS' name (and I do not know his middle name) and your culture. IMO
The meanings of names means a lot to me too. More so than the names of paint colors!
Sarina seeems a derivative of Sarah more so than Serena, if that means anything.
Try to find a different baby name book that has alternative meanings to work in your favor! I would think that Serena and Sarina would be listed and mean the same in some books as they are alternatives.
Just checked the book I have (it's a little more modern) and it does not even have Sarina. It has Serena with variants: Serina and Sarina. Meaning: [Means "calm" and was the name of an early saint. Serena also sounds lavish and is the name of a charismatic tennis star. You can have it both ways with this snazzy classic.]
I kind of like the Serina spelling too, if you haven't explored that!
Good luck with your choice!
