Dizziness/anxiety

So I have anxiety and take Lexapro. It helps but when I start to worry or get anxious I feel dizzy, just a side effect? I hate it. I wish it would go away but the more I think about that the more crazier I feel. My muscles also ache too, from what I've googled these are symptoms of anxiety but of course no cureChat Icon
I had a full physical and bloodwork and everything came back perfect. I had an awful feeling that I was ill-maybe pre cursor to stroke, heart attack, cancer..my Dr., told me to seek help that I'm healthy but my mind isn't. Hmmm I don't think I'm cureable.

i think the symptoms you're describing, dizziness, etc. are a side effect of the anxiety, not the lexapro. medication is great but i am a firm believer that it needs to go hand in hand with talk therapy. are you seeing a therapist now? i would speak to my therapist about the anxiety issues you are having. they can help you identify the triggers, what action caused you to feel the anxiety & then how to handle it next time you are faced with an issue.

Re: Dizziness/anxiety

I think you 100% right, it only happens when I feel it coming on. Like right now I'm totally fine. The medication does stop me from having a panic attack but it doesn't stop the anxiety totally. My Dr., offered to increase the dose but I don't want to. It's me, my mind I know it. Sadly my insurance does not cover mental health so they refuse to pay for therapy. Strangely they do pay for the medication, I ask no questions.

anxiety is the worst. my heart goes out to you.

I have found that Lexapro does cause dizzyness, and I know others have, as well. However, it's hard to determine, as anxiety in general can make you dizzy and disoriented.

I have found anxiety even worse than a panic attack at times. For me, anixety is constant and there is no release. It just builds and builds. However, if you have a full-blown panic attack, while it is absolute hell, at least u get some sort of relief after it's over.

Very well said. Thank you, it makes me feel better to know I'm not alone but at the same time I'm sad that you've experienced it too. I just wish I could over come it, I've been struggling since last March and really it's enough already. Like the PP said, I'm trying to figure out what triggers it, I'm trying to stop my mind from thinking...it's just so dam hard to overcome.

Re: Dizziness/anxiety

Have you tried Zoloft? I deal with anxiety too and Zoloft has helped me tremendously. If I don't take it for more than a day (if I forget) I get dizzy but other than that I'm fine.
