Communicating with OT

So we're new to this OT thing.

Do you call/email your DCs therapists at all? or do you just leave it all to appointments?

She hasn't offered email or anything like that, though you can email anyone at their agency (though I think it's all the same email address). Is it out of line to ask to have more communication, or is that not necessary? What is the protocol?

Thanks!!

Not at all, ask for her cell AND email.

What if you needed to cancel last minute, ya know?

I communicate with most of DS's therapists via email, and a couple via text if it's something short.

Re: Communicating with OT

You definitely need her cell phone number. Call if you need to cancel. And she should call you if she needs to cancel. Do you bring her to An OT clinic, does the OT come to you or does she receive OT at school/daycare? If she receives OT services when you are not around and someone else is with your DD, then it is not out of the ordinary to call occasionally to discuss progress/areas of need etc... Or you can have a "communication notebook". If you are present during the sessions or in a waiting room, use that time to discuss your DD progress/needs with the OT. If you think you need more than a quick 5 minutes at the end of each session, tell the OT that you'd like to spend a little more time discussing XYZ and see if she could alot more time next session.

Re: Communicating with OT

it really depends...

i never called any of AJs therapists off hours except to cancel or change a time, but then again we had at least 3 therapist 5 days a week and one on Saturdays, so it was never really an issue if something came up.

but i would def get her cell number for that just in case.
