Yes - It is so hard in the beginning. Keep reaching out here and find support through others. It makes this time more manageable!

Re: Please tell me this gets easier-adjusting to life with newborns
Oh, I remember those days!!!!! I promise you it gets better.....6 weeks in it is so much better....10 weeeks better....16 weeks becomes a dream!!!!!
My dr said, "It took 9 months for you to make these babies....your body needs time to heal. You have double the horomones to clear out"
I used to cry at the Sopranos! LOL...Watching people get whacked made me cry!
Take a shower every day! And, try to get the babies on a schedule as quickly as you can! That makes all the difference!

Re: Please tell me this gets easier-adjusting to life with newborns
It DOES get easier!!!!!
When I had my twin girls, my older daughter was 3 - and I remember thinking that I was SOOOOO much more 'go with the flow' with the twins because I had gone through this before.
I remember thinking that the hardest thing I could imagine would be going from no children to multiple children. First time mommies are sleep deprived, emotional (hormones are crazy), and we beat ourselves up over everything. Add multiples to the mix and it's no wonder you're overwhelmed!
Trust me - your babies are wonderful, well taken care for, and beautiful. They can cry for 5 minutes and will be FINE. Your crying is a GOOD thing because that is how you are dealing with the enormous stress of having the babies - not to mention the trauma your body went through carrying them and delivering them (whether vaginally or via c section - both are really really hard!). I remember with my first, every time I'd cry, I'd leak breastmilk. And I cried A LOT. . . so I was constantly leaking.
It might not feel like it now - but they will sleep through the night - I promise!
Pumping and breastfeeding is wonderful - and you know what - if you want to supplement with formula - DO IT! If you want to stop breast feeding - THAT'S FINE! A happy mommy makes for happy babies. I breastfed and pumped and supplemented with formula - and I remember thinking 'that god for formula because there is no way I could do this every few hours all day long - (but there are mommies who can do this - and kudos to them!) I just knew what I was capable of and breastfeeding/pumping exclusively was not it.
never deny yourself a shower - even if its just for a few minutes a day - it will make you feel more human.
I dont get my nails done often - but when my twins came (in the spring of '10), I worked it out so that I could get a pedicure every 2 or 3 weeks. Just that 30 minutes of being pampered was soooooo wonderful for me.
Hang in there - it gets easier!!!!!

Re: Please tell me this gets easier-adjusting to life with newborns
First of all congrats on your
I have twin boys myself and I did IVF as well. I have to say when I came home I was freaked out. But as the weeks go on and the boys get older it gets better and better.
The first 6-14 weeks are really hard and you feel like a zombie but try and get as much help from family members as possible. NEVER say NO, even if you rest while they visit.
Try and shower ONCE everyday whether is when your mom is there or when your DH gets home from work.
Last but least SCHEDULE, SCHEDULE, SCHEDULE your boys on the same schedule, that makes your life alot easier too.
Good Luck. FM is you have any questions.
