About to start TTC ... what do I need to do, if anything?

Hi everyone. I'm new to this site and it seems like everyone here is a great source of information, so I thought I'd post a question of my own. (Well, more like several questions, haha.)

I'm going to begin TTC with my DH in the New Year. Should I be doing anything like seeing a gyno beforehand, going out of my way to let my regular doc know I'm TTC, etc? To be honest, I'm way overdue for a regular gyno exam. My regular doc has given them to me in the past but I'd rather move forward with an OB/GYN. Should I try to find one now, get an exam, and tell him/her I'm TTC?

Also, do some people just use their regular gyn as their ... pregnancy doc? Sorry, I'm totally clueless on the right terms, what people do, etc. It's just that if I'm going to get a gyno exam now, I may as well do it with the OB/GYN that I'll have if/when I'm pregnant... but do pregnancy docs do regular gyno exams on non-pregnant people?

Thank you soo much for any help or suggestions that you have!! Chat Icon I'm obviously very confused, haha.

some gynecologists are not ob docs, so you might want to find that out and do your research now if you are going to change doctors. If you have no reason to think there are any issues, it's not completely necessary to see your doc before TTC.....but if you haven't had an exam in a while it doesn't hurt to go. My doctor recommended I start taking an over the counter prenatal (I use the CVS brand) while TTC, and if you want to start keeping track of your cycle that will help you later too. I use mymonthlycycles just to keep track, but others on here use Fertility Friend. Good luck! Chat Icon

welcome and congrats!!! im in my first month of ttc...so i dont know too much but here is what i can tell you...

I would def suggest finding an ob/gyn and making an appt to see them just to get comfortable with them...and of course mention you are ttc (but you can start ttc before you meet with them...no need to put it on hold). I would also suggest starting to take prenatal vitamins...they wont help you get pregnant but when you do become pregnant it will help the development.

good luck

Def star pre-natals. I got gummy ones at Duane Reade and they were yummy. I also downloaded an app on my phone just to keep track.

Good luck to you! Definitely start by finding an ob/gyn you are comfortable with especially if you haven't been in a while. Its also a good idea to get started on prenatals. Baby dust!

I am in the same boat as you.

I plan on going to my gyno next month and ask him for advice. I will also be starting on prenatals once I finish with BC next week.

Wishing you lots of Chat Icon

Good Luck to you!!!

Just like everyone suggested; start taking some prenatal vitamins; and keep track of your cycle. this will help you know how long your cycles are; when AF is due (if your late) and help determine when you Ovulate.

Best of luck to you!!!
