NYC teacher in all boroughs, question about parking

I worked at one school fr nine years that had doe parking only around the building and we had a parking pass. Then the pass became a lottery and if you didn't have one you had to get to work very early. At my new school we have a lot but only have ten spots so it's first come first serve. I get here at 7 just to get a spot. Wondering how everyone else school is like.

Re: NYC teacher in all boroughs, question about parking

There were two lots outside my building, no pass required. Lots of street parking too. I'm in Queens.

At my old school...235 teachers and about 20-30 spots next to the school and 10 spots across the field. We could get a pass, but it didn't guarantee a spot. I had to get there by 6:30-7:00 to get a spot. (we had a four period staggered spot)

no lot, no passes, but in a residential area of flushing/whitestone queens so most days its not too terrible. UNLESS it snows, and then its terrible!!

Re: NYC teacher in all boroughs, question about parking

When I worked at a nyc school I mostly took the bus or got a ride with DH just to avoid having to find a spot. Some days (due to alternate side rules) it would be so bad that teachers would search forever for a spot, then just give up & drive home because they couldn't park. Or they'd park in the morning & have to go out & move their car during the day to avoid getting a ticket. Or they'd finally find a spot 10 blocks away from the building. One year I had early schedule & drove there every day but would make sure to get there around 6:15 so I could find a spot & not be rushed.

I'm in queens. We have a lot with a nice amount of spots, although it is a big high school with many schools and teachers.

There are many reserved spots for admins. We also have some DOE parking with the lottery pass, which gets rotated.

I get to work early to avoid the crazy traffic and to get parking. There isn't too much street parking close by otherwise.

We have no lot and 7 passes for 35 people who drive, 21 passes total for all three schools in my building. There are few non-DOE spots to be found and Wednesday is the only decent day to park. There are teachers in my school who allegedly have forged passes, which I disagree with, but I know how terrible the situation is. I actually stopped driving two years ago and take Metro North (I work in the Bronx), which luckily is very close to the school.

Re: NYC teacher in all boroughs, question about parking

No lot, 4 (!) spaces in a mainly residential neighborhood in Brooklyn. The permits are held in the office and they get signed out each day, so it's first come, first served. I pay $25 to park in a lot down the street near a factory. There are about 10 of us who pay the factory to park there. Other than that, parking is pretty miserable around my school, but we are only two blocks from the J train.

Re: NYC teacher in all boroughs, question about parking

We have a lot we can use, but it is owned by a church that charges $100 per month to use the lot! Otherwise, we park on the street. I park on a street that is between two housing projects and covered in broken glass from people's windows being broken! Wheee!

Luckily my car is old and a POS, so no one bothers me.

I work in the south Bronx.

My school is in an area where there are mainly one family homes and parking is so easy . I am grateful bc I know this is not the case in most NYC schools.

I student taught in a very residential area of Queens about 3 years ago. The school was super close to the train station, so parking on the residential streets could be a PIA if I got there 10 minutes or so later than usual. Otherwise, I never had a problem and always parked within a block or two.

Re: NYC teacher in all boroughs, question about parking

We have ample parking in back of the school for teachers....parking is never an issue.

I am in the Bronx.
