Not a frequent poster, but....

Hi ladies,

I used to post very frequently on the Infertility board, but since my IVF, I haven't been very active.

Anyway, I'm 23 1/2 weeks pregnant with twins and have a 2 1/2 year old ds. I teach, and at my appt. yesterday, my dr. said he would prefer if I didn't return to work. My cervix is fine, everything looks good, but he said he'd like to try to reduce the chance of preterm labor.

My question for you is, if you worked, when did you stop during your pregnancy? I have no problem stopping, but feel a bit like a baby because it's so early! I know that sounds silly. It just feels so different because I worked until the day I gave birth with ds (which I swore I would NEVER do again!)

I went part time at 31 weeks and then stopped working at 34 weeks all by choice (I was huge and hurting!!). I went into the hospital for pre-eclampsia at 35 weeks 2 days. They c-sectioned me two days later.

ETA: I work in an office where they cut me a lot of slack...I wouldnt have made it that long on my feet!

I was pregnant with twins and taught a full load up until I was 38 w 4 days....I had a C/S the next day. It was good for me to be working instead of sitting at home doing nothing!

If your doctor wants you to stop working, I would. I worked up until 24 weeks which was the day I was admitted into the hospital on bedrest. I stayed in the hospital on bedrest until my twins were born at 27wk5d in August. My DD spent 10 weeks in the NICU and my DS is still there and has had so many problems due to his lung disease. After everything I have been through, I would never wish this experience on anyone. I wish my doctor had me stop working earlier because maybe I could have prevented them from coming so early. Take it easy and give those babies the best chance they have of staying nice and healthy in your belly!!

My dr. told me early on that he would pull me out of work at 24 weeks regardless. It just so happened that at my 24 week appointment my cervix was short and he put me on bedrest. My last day of work was going to be that Saturday but it ended up being the day of my appointment which was Wednesday. I ended up having them at 30 weeks.

If your dr. is recommending it I would definitely follow his orders.

My dr told me in the beginning he pulls all twin moms out of work at 26 weeks precautionary. His goal was always to get me to 35 weeks as he said he has a very high success rate by doing this.

I have a desk job so I was pretty surprised he was taking me out so early, but of course I did whatever he said. I had a pretty uneventful pregnancy, stopped working at 26 weeks, and delivered at 37w3d. We were shooting for 38 weeks, but he was very happy as of course DH and I!

I was in a similar situation. I teach and I had a 2 year old while preg with twins. My Dr. kept pushing for me to stop working just for precaution and I pushed through. If there was something wrong I would have stopped but for me it was better to keep moving. I also couldn't afford to pay daycare and not work....and I thought it was harder chasing after a 2 year old at home. I teach kindergarten where we do a lot of centers and small group so it was easy for me to sit. I stopped work at the February break last year at 36 weeks and delivered at 37.5 weeks.

I worked p/t (~20 hours a week) and was planning on workig until the twins were born, but at 34.5 weeks I had to stop working due to preterm labor and the start of preeclampsia. They were born at 36w6d. I agree with the previous poster that said, sometimes work is "easier" on your pregnancy than being home wih a 2.5 year old. At the same time I wouldnt want to go against doctors order, so I think you need to discuss again with your doctor.

I worked from home which is the only reason I worked until the day my kids were bord at 35.5 weeks. I had a c-section due to preeclampsia. If your Dr is advising it, I woul dod it!

I was lucky to be off for the summer at 20 w. I was put on br at 26 weeks and had my girls at 30w. they each spent over a month in the nicu. do what your dr says!!

Thank you so much, ladies! After reading through these and thinking it through, I think I'll go in for a day or two to clear up some loose ends and then listen to dr's orders.

I am 21 weeks and my dr told me at my last appt that she wanted me to stop working at 24 weeks. I have a 2 1/2 year old and I also commute an hour each way to the school where I teach. I thought it was early too, but I'd rather be safe than sorry! My water broke while I was teaching with my daughter, but this is a different pregnancy.

I commute 2 hours into the city everyday and my Dr. had me stop working at 28 weeks. I was very happy about that. I had the babies at 36 weeks.

I was commuting 2hrs into the city every day until 30 weeks when I went into the hospital with contractions and came home on bed rest.

My OB is pulling me at 26 weeks (as he does with all of his MoMs)... but he said there's a chance I can be pull anywhere after 20 wks, and I have NO problem with it. Whatever needs to be done to keep the babies in longer, we will do and make it work.

It may be "early" at 23wks, but if you OB would like you to be off your feet, then I would listen to him. JMHO tho.

I was/am a SAHM my entire pregnancy with the twins. I was never put on bedrest, never had preterm labor/contractions, never had cerclage issues and remained on my feet until I delivered at 37w2d.
