Switching OB at 26.5 weeks
Is this a bad idea? I don't hate my OB, he is a nice guy, but there just have been some inconsistencies that are bothering my DH and I. I go to a small practice which is what we wanted and I know that he can't remember everything about my pregnancy, but I feel like every time I go see him it's the first time.
He reads over my file, what meds I am on and that's it. Yesterday however I had an issue that really bothered me.
I was told I have low iron and need to be put on a supplement. However, this was checked like two months ago and I have been on something already. I explained the pill he gave me I could not take because I got sick EVERY time I took it, just couldn't keep it down, but I found another pill that worked better and he said that was fine, just take it twice a day.
So how come yesterday when the nurse tells me I need to take something now once a day because my iron isn't bad just a little low, there is no record of me previously being placed on this. I told the nurse the story and she said oh its something else, not as strong, try it and see how you do, so I went to pick it up yesterday and it's the SAME medicine that makes me sick. It's like why was there no notation in my file about this. So I called to try to get $ back since it was pretty expensive and of course they can't do anything but apologize and they said the made a note in my file now, but who knows!
Sorry for my long vent, just frustrated with the lack of consistency and it's making me worried for when I get even further along.
Thanks for listening!!

I think that you need to do whatever will make you most comfortable. I can imagine your frustration, and truthfully, that would bother me as well.

Re: Switching OB at 26.5 weeks
I switched at almost the exact same time (had first appointment w/ new doc at 27.5 weeks). This is my second baby. I lived across the country with my first, and loved my doctor, so I felt like I knew how important it was to be someplace where you are happy. With this second baby, I had been having a lot of worries about how I just wasn't comfortable with my doctor and his practice. I just went to the new doctors and am SOOOO happy to have switched. It is such a weight off my mind to want to go to appointments instead of feeling really unhappy about it.
Just an FYI I switched to Great Neck OBGYN and they had no problem taking me at this point in my pregnancy. I am getting an extra sono bc they said they like to get one done by their tech.

Re: Switching OB at 26.5 weeks
You have to do what is going to make you comfortable. I am planning on switching mine. I am not as far as you (13w4d), but as much as I love my OB, there are things that bother me. There is no answering service after hours. I was sick last weekend, vomitted 10 times, so I went to the hospital. For peace of mind, I need a dr that I can get in touch with, not run off to the hospital. I am also not comforable with the hospital she is affiliated with. I plan on switching to my friends OB who always returned her calls and delivers at North Shore.
Point blank: If you have reservations about your doctor and may be nervous down the line, I would definitely switch.

Re: Switching OB at 26.5 weeks
I'd let it go (assuming you are happy with the rest of your care): it's a one time example of poor record-keeping. Your OB probably has tons of patients he sees on any given day & can't remember it all. I like to stun myself by thinking that my OB will see ALL the people in the waiting room before me with a few seconds to review their file.
The important things are how well he makes decisions... that's hard to tell with a normal pregnancy.

Re: Switching OB at 26.5 weeks
LOL. I have a feeling we have the same OB. The office is terrible at keeping accurate files and it drives me crazy. I was thinking of switching as well and feel "too late" at 20 weeks (which I know it isn't).

Re: Switching OB at 26.5 weeks
For my first preg., I switched from my OB practice to the SB Midwives -- I was 24 or 25 weeks along. No problems switching at all.
