Re: speech eval?

i called an agency who then put me in contact with a service coordinator in nassau county.

you can call the county direct and someone will speak with you to set up the evaluations.

You call Nassau county

Early Intervention (EI) Program (516) 227-8661

Re: speech eval?

My DS had no words at 18 months and didn't qualify for speech at that time. The evaluator told me to call back when he was 2 if still no change for another evaluation, which I did, and he qualified then. I would call for an eval just to make sure.

Re: speech eval?

Call the county number above...they will take your info and give it to a coordinator who willc all you back within a few days.

Then they will come to your house and describe the process for you. Give you a list of agencies etc you can use for the eval.

You pick an agency and they will forward the info to them and then someone from the agency will contact you to set up a time for the evals.

Our speech eval pathologist told us the results right there, some do, some dont. She told us we would qualify.

They forward the results to the EI coordinator who will then set up a meeting to discuss services if approved. They will set up what services your approved for, then contact the agency for you. ( some do , you may need to on your own)

Then the agency will contact you with a therapists info or the therapist assigned will contact you directly to set up a schedule.

HTH.

Good luck

eta- 18 months is a hard age for EI. My son was evaluated at 19 months, he had no words, no SOUNDS, no babbling. Nothing and he justbarely qualified by a few points b/c his other skills ( receptive language) was too high. BUT , if your son doesnt always 'listen' this could play into your favor in an evaluation. Ya kinda want them to do bad. lol

the process is quite different now... they laid off over 200 county workers from the DOH.

please don't quote me on this, but from what i was told now, is you contact the county the county then will contact an agency who will then contact you and they will set up the evaluations. you do not have a choice anymore, unless you start with the agency.

the county coordinator will not be coming to the house any more to discuss the process, they basically just do all the paper work. the agency now will be the responsible ones .

because of the cuts, the coordinators that are still there basically just tripled their work load, which means no time to go house to house to meet with families.

not exactly sure when this goes into effect, but i was told last week this is how the procedure for EI will be handled.
