Asking To Be Induced 2nd Time Around Advice
Hi ladies
Im due Jan 18th...one week from Wednesday. Im a good 1 cm dilated and my cervix is slightly thick as of my appt last week. I go again on Thursday
I have a 2 year old and was induced at 41 weeks with cervadil and pitocin last time.
I throw up daily from heartburn and sleep sitting up, if i sleep at all. I also am in so much pain, that it is difficult to walk.
I am a patient of Dr Dolisi/Hanuer. Do you think I should ask to be induced on my due date? I really cannot take it anymore.
Thanks for the advice ladies!

Re: Asking To Be Induced 2nd Time Around Advice
Um....No. Induction should not be used for any reason other than medical necessity, such as risk to mother or baby. It carries risks to both. Pitocin is a nasty drug associated with neuro-developmental defects in a growing child, fetal distress due to the intensity of contractions, increased risk of uterine rupture, increased C-section rates...etc. etc. I think it would be irresponsible and unethical to request to be induced because you feel done. Sorry, just my opinion, which was asked for. Assuming that your doctor won't let you go past 41 weeks, You have 16 days AT MOST left. You can do anything for that little amount of time. Hang in there....it's really hard...I know. I have a 2 year old too and am 36+ weeks right now. You will not be pregnant forever! (That phrase always makes me feel better).

I did ask for advice and appreciate your thoughts, although I do believe that were not put in the kindest of ways.
Where is the research about the negative effects from Pitocin from?
Believe that I would put my child first before me always. I am not simply "done" If my body reacts this way and does not move along, and I already know this from the last time, why would I wait past my due date.

Re: Asking To Be Induced 2nd Time Around Advice
First off, I'm sorry you aren't feeling well The last few weeks are the hardest!!
For me, I personally would not. But in my case it's because it increases the risk of needing a c-section and I am hoping to have another vaginal birth. Obviously, every person is different though.
Has your OB put you on any kind of heartburn medication? I was having similar issues with my heartburn (Tums were completely ineffective) and my OB recommended I start taking Zantac. It made such a big difference!

seriously, always have such an attitude?
to the OP, I do not knwo your doctors but I just wanted to say that I talked to my Ob today about elective inductions and she was saying that she doesn't like inductions for first timers usually. Since you are not a first timer, maybe you have a good shot. Ask Mrs.Campos too..she is a doctor.

Re: Asking To Be Induced 2nd Time Around Advice
I would be interested in the answer too because I am 39 weeks now and have an AP.. The Doctor has told me start monitoring fetal movement or he will need to induce, and I have A LOT of trouble feeling the movement (even though on the monitor the baby is going crazy). I am nervous about inducing at my due date because of this since its not a "medical reason" as much as something that would be done for piece of mind.
I am really sorry your not feeling well

Re: Asking To Be Induced 2nd Time Around Advice
I was induced with my first, and while I did deliver naturally, it was not a good experience, and DS was born not breathing and was in the NICU for a week. I do not think it is worth the danger unless you or the baby are in danger. There is an increased chance of fetal distress.

There is hope that you could even go early. I was not induced, but I was 6 days late with DC1. DC2 I was 4 days early.
I totally understand why you would want to be induced. But I would avoid it if possible. There are complications that come along with it.

I am a patient of theirs also. I don't think they will let you be induced on your due date. They had me go 10 days late with my first son.
I would kind of ride it out. If you had a vaginal birth the first time chances are the same thing will happen this time. You don't want to risk the increase of a csection.

Re: Asking To Be Induced 2nd Time Around Advice
I would think that since you had a successfully induced V birth last time you will be more likely to have a successful v birth again. My OB induced me a day before my DD with DS. My actual DD was 9/11 and my DH did not want to make that the babies birthday (unless it happened naturally that day). I was having major discomfort from my hernia at the time and my OB asked me if I wanted to be induced, I jumped at the chance. I did wind up with a c/s, but I can't say if that's truly because I was induced or because DS was sunny side up and I have very narrow hips. ETA: the baby was never in distress, I just didn't progress enough.

Well only you and your Dr. know how you are feeling and your situation. If that is truly what you want then I don't see why your Dr wouldn't do it for you.. I was induced with DS at 41 weeks and ended in CS and now I can't be induced again. Can't hurt to ask your dr and get all the pros and cons. GL

Re: Asking To Be Induced 2nd Time Around Advice
Oh I know how uncomfy you must be! Have you tried any of the "tricks" to maybe help things along? Ya know, spicy food, , walking etc? I would definitely try any and ALL of those first. I wasn't induced with DD, but I have heard many people say it can lead to a c-section and for that reason alone I'd be scared to do it.
Good luck! You're almost there!! Soon you'll be a mommy of two!!!!!!!

exactly this. I am a patient of theirs as well and I was induced with my first after being like 8 days late.

Re: Asking To Be Induced 2nd Time Around Advice
I am not a patient of theirs, but with my first I was induced 2 weeks early because of my extreme discomfort. I had a successful vaginal birth and DD is perfect. I would ask your doc.

Re: Asking To Be Induced 2nd Time Around Advice
I asked about an induction early on-- and now, I am definitely going to be induced either one week early or on my due date (if they let me wait that long) because they are concerned about the baby's size-- so my induction has become a medical necessity for the baby.
But, in my discussions with my doc prior to discovering my particular issue-- if you have already had a successful delivery, it is much easier to induce the second time, etc. Also, they would like to see you have some progression-- if there is nothing, they probably won't do it.
I know many people who have had successful inductions with second babies-- I think it depends on your doctor, the advice they give you, and your personal choice.
Good luck-- I'm right behind you and am also ready-- assuming I can get everything in the house ready in the next 3 weeks!

I think it doesn't hurt to ask! I believe my office does elective inductions for people already having at least one child.

Re: Asking To Be Induced 2nd Time Around Advice
really just depends on your dr...my dr w my first told me i was going to be induced on my due date and i was okay with that...cause i was so done being pg and couldn't wait to find out (we were team green) some other drs will make you wait longer. sounds like you have it so rough i hope they let you induce as soon as possible. from what my dr told me, as long as growth sonos and pregnancy is normal, there is no "need" to go past 40 weeks, hence why i was induced...and for the record i had a perfect pain med free vaginal labor which was induced by cervadil + pitocin was 8.8oz!
