Non-Medication Migraine threatment
I have terrible headaches and will soon be TTC therefore I will have to come off all medications. Has any one tried non-medication therapies and had success? I am thinking about acupuncture and massage mostly...just wondering if it is worth it.

Re: Non-Medication Migraine threatment
I've never done either so no advice. But I've had a few really awful migranes and it sounds crazy but I stick my head under cold water and the pain amazingly subsides. I hate cold water but it really helps.

I am already doing biofeedback. It is great. It takes a bit of time to learn but it is worth it. I have never heard of PTs doing only psychologist...good to know.

Your headaches may go away when you get pregnant so try not to worry too much. Mine were gone the minute I got PG. I am waiting for them to return now that I had my baby.

Jennie Garth was just on the doctors about migraines. They showed a cooling cap, talked about staying well hydrated and other ways to avoid taking rx drugs

Re: Non-Medication Migraine threatment
i used accupuncture for my neck and back and it works really well. it might work well for migraines since they hit trigger points.
i would also look into a chiropractor as well and massage therapy. Biofeedback was popular years ago when my mom suffered with them; I dont know too much about that area though.

My doctor is fairly certain my headaches will go away when I am pregnant. I am concerned about being off my preventive meds like like Botox - it is recommended to stop it 3 months before ttc.

I found that when I was seeing a chiropractor, my migraines decreased in frequency and severity.

I may need to try the chiropractor again.

Re: Non-Medication Migraine threatment
MrsG, I know exactly how you feel. I was on Topamax, but you have to stop it to TTC, so I knew it wasn't sustainable.
I struggled with headaches for YEARS. I did all kinds of drugs and testing. I went to a headache specialist neurologist and he cured my headaches (for the most part) in one visit.
I got off the meds and started vitamins
Vitamin B6 -200mg CoQ10 - 200mg Magnesium 400mg (start with less since it can bother the stomach) Butterbur extract.
He said it could take several weeks to work, but I felt better almost immediately.
I still have some residual symptoms (I have really "complex" migraines), but I am going to try to up my magnesium since I was stil at a small dose.
if that fails, we're going to move to botox, but the vitamins alone made me 90% better.
it sounds like you've done the botox. Can you tell me about it?

Thank you for all the info! I have an amazing headache specialist who I have been working with for six years but my diagnosis is daily chronic migraine. I have tried numerous preventative meds but I often have terrible side effects. I take Mg 1000mg daily and Propanolol 20mg daily for prevention. Additionally I get Botox injections every three months (my Dr. will not do them while TTC). The Botox has helped a lot. It has decreased the severity of my headaches. It worked amazingly (cut my headache frequency by 2/3) well the first few treatments but it does not seem to be working as well lately. Basically you receive injections to the face, temples, neck, shoulders and the back of the head. It does not really hurt but it is approximately 31 injections. After the first treatment my forehead felt a bit tight but it only happen that one time. FM me if you want more info.

Re: Non-Medication Migraine threatment
Wow.
Sounds like you've tried the vitamins. I was surprised. As I told you in my FM, I went through SO much with these headaches before anyone even mentioned the vitamins.
