Dessert Table

I'm planning on having a dessert table at my son's first birthday party this weekend. We think some family members will attack dessert table before dinner. I made monkey cake pops for favors that I would like to display. (I'm very proud of them) I'm afraid they might start disappearing & at the end of the party there won't be enough to hand out.
If you had a dessert table at a party did you have this problem? Should I make a sign that says "hands off" in a nice way? lol. If you made a sign how did you word it? Thanks!

Re: Dessert Table

HOw about

"You can't have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?"

Sorry I really don't know...

Can you display them out of reach? like on a high display and then take it down when it's time to serve them?

Could you maybe wrap them up in something that people can still see them, but would maybe feel funny unwrapping them before it's time?

Maybe you could even make references to the dessert table to people who you think might go for...if the food comes up or something or someone thanks you for the food, says it's good, etc., you could say something along the lines of, "Thank so much! I really can't wait until I unwrap the desserts later! I hope they came out well!"

I saw a cute sign somewhere on LIF in an album that said "not yet"
I thought it was really cute but to the point.
At my godson's christening I had to police the desert table until it was time.

It's the adults I'm worried about too! I wrapped my monkey cake pops & just made a sign to put next to them that says "Thanks for swinging by!" Hopefully that will clue them in that they are favors. I'll have to keep my eye on the rest of the dessert. I just want the table to stay pretty until we sing happy birthday for pictures. I know at past family parties the dessert had to be hidden away until after dinner. Self-control people! Chat Icon

Just wrap them in a basket with cellophane and open it up when your first guest is getting ready to leave.

Re: Dessert Table

Can you put cellophane around the entire box of them? This way they can be seen but not touched. Then on a stick have a sign saying something like thanks for coming on your way out please take a favor.

Re: Dessert Table

This happens on my husband's side ALL the time. One year, at a 4th of July party, I had made chocolate covered strawberries and oreos. I had displayed them on pretty plates. Now, the party was outside naturally so I kept the dessert inside in the central air so they would not melt. They were displayed with all the other desserts. I went in to go to the bathroom and it looked like some were missing! But I thought, NO way. Then, a little while later my SIL came and got me and told me that extended family members were taking the desserts!!! I mean, we were JUST serving dinner at this point! So, my MIL, SIL, and I went inside and had to HIDE the desserts... so, we put them in the dining room thinking that would give people the "out of reach" slap in the face of don't eat these... They still did and finally we had to put them on top of the fridge! And then the heat from the fridge started to make the chocolate melt so we had to finally take them and put them IN the laundry room with the door CLOSED. I mean, how ridiculous?! These were adults!!! Chat Icon

I think the best thing to do is wrap things in pretty plastic wrap / clear wrap - they have decorative kinds with ribbon and such. I, personally, would never eat dessert or pick at it before it is served but I guess you can't count on others having the same manners!

While I think this is cute, the people who it is meant for will either not read it or completely disregard it. The people who abide by it are the ones who wouldn't need the sign in the first place.

As others said, I would either wrap them all up as a group, so they won't be tampered with, or wait until after dinner to set up.

I agree with this. Plenty of people will see the display when your lighting the cake etc right?
