Mark Wahlberg Apologizes for Saying He Would Have Rescued the 9/11 Plane
ark Wahlberg no longer thinks he could have turned 9/11 into a plot out of one of his action movies and has issued an apology, saying "to suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible."
The "Contraband" star was originally scheduled to board a plane on 9/11 but changed his flight so he could attend the Toronto Film Festival.
He landed in hot water after telling Men's Journal that he would have battled the hijackers and rescued the people on board if he had been a passenger.
"If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did," Wahlberg told the magazine. "There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”
Needless to say, the families of victims of the terrorist attack did not take kindly to Wahlberg treating the tragedy like the plot of one of his blockbuster thrillers.
Deena Burnett-Bailey, The widow of United Airlines Flight 93 passenger Thomas Burnett, took Wahlberg to task.
"The plan for Flight 93 was foiled by heroes," Burnett-Bailey told TMZ. "For him to speculate that his presence on board could have stopped everything is silly and disrespectful. Sounds like someone is grandstanding.". In the wake of the backlash, he's issued an apology:
In his apology, Wahlberg said: "I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention.”Source: Reuters

I'm glad he apologized because that was a really stupid insensitive thing to say. Just because you're an actor in action movies doesn't mean you can do any of those stunts in real life, you jacka$$

It's easy to say should've, could've, would've when you're outside the situation. At least he apologized though. It was a really dumb thing to say.

And I'm a big fan of his. But he was definitely a jacka$$ here.

Re: Mark Wahlberg Apologizes for Saying He Would Have Rescued the 9/11 Plane
It was idiotic and insensitive. Because they INDEED tried to do something to stop the terrorists. The plane was supposed to hit the white house. They avoided the crash into the white house and trying to take control back of the plane.

Seriously. They did try ...remember "let's roll?"..his comments turned me off to him and even with the apology I still don't see him the same way. 10 years later, he has to come out and say this? Really? ironic his new movie is out....Contraband..

I like his acting but I am not a fan of him, as a person. He has a very dirty past, including beating a man until the man was blinded, theft, multiple arrests etc. He has made multiple stupid comments throughout his career, including racist comments. I am not surprised that he made another stupid comment. It seems to be his style.

Re: Mark Wahlberg Apologizes for Saying He Would Have Rescued the 9/11 Plane
I'm glad he apologized, but I don't think the comments were THAT bad. I think from his POV he is just talking about the extent he would have gone to to protect his family. It was just a stupid comment. He didn't take it a step further and realize that the other people on the plane had the same feelings and the same resources he would have had.
I think it was insensitive, but I don't think he was trying to be. I've heard a lot of people say "oh if I had been on that plane, I would have killed them, I would have this, I would have that"... i think people are just trying to express their own anger and frustration and not trying to contrast it with those who were there.

This! Women tend to worship him but people forget what a pri*ck he was back in the day! Never liked him.
