A creepy kind of gift...

So we had our mega housewarming party yesterday.

DH's parent's cousin (elderly, in his 80's) brought us a beautiful silver (but a bit modern for my taste) statue of a mother and child. As we don't have kids yet I thought this was a bit odd and given our infertility issues (which of course, they don't know about) it kind of creeped me out. I put it right back in the gift bag right after I unwrapped it and stuck it in a closet.

I have to be honest, I don't think I even want it in the house right now and thought about storing it at the IL's for now. I guess I'm being superstitious.

What are your thoughts? What would you do? Am I just being weird?

Re: A creepy kind of gift...

Is it a christian status- Mary and Jesus or just a generic mother/child?
I would probably just put it away in my attic, in a box and not worry too much about it or sell it on eBayChat Icon
But you can ask your in-laws if they can keep a box for you..just put a few things in the box.

No, it's generic. DH is family is Jewish and we attend Unitarian Universalist so... It's one of those modern ones. I have to run out but if I get a chance I'll post a pic later.

Re: A creepy kind of gift...

I had a similar experience after my parents died. A friend gave me a statue of a shrouded figure, which I think she thought would be a comforting memorial of my parents. It creeped the hell out of me and it was wrapped up in a box in my closet. I was never able to keep it displayed anywhere. I know she loved it though, so after a few years, I just told her how I felt about it and asked her if she would like it back.

If it is someone who won't be in your house a lot, looking to see if it will be displayed, I would get it out of the house for now. Maybe someone can store it for you, so that if you want to bring it back later, you could.

That is very odd...I'd give it away or store it at the IL's...I'm sure they meant well...but, don't really understand why they would've given that to you.
