Those who have twins and another DC

How did your 2 pregnancies compare?

If you had a rough pregnancy with the twins was it better with the single DC.

The who wants another baby thread got me thinking....and it's not that I am afraid to go through what I did but I feel like it wouldn't be fair to my twins.

-I threw up for 20 weeks
-Had a short cervix at 13 weeks, had a cerclage and was on and off bed rest throughout
-Developed preclampsia and had an emergency c section

I know a twin pregnancy can make these things worse but did anyone have some of the above issues with their twins and not with their single pregnancy.

Re: Those who have twins and another DC

Well, i'm only 11.5 weeks but this pregnancy has been WAY different for me so far! With the twins, i was not really sick. I got sick in the shower. That's it! Now, i have food aversions, i'm sick in the morning from the shower, and brushing my teeth. I go to bed with naseau(sp?). I'm only 11.5 weeks and i'm showing already. Not even a little bit, but a lot.

I obviouslt can't compare the rest of my pregnancy so far but Dr Kofinas said i might not need the cerclage, my cervix might be ok. I still have to take shots again every day for thrombophilia but that's really it. My biggest concern right now is having to have a c-section only 20 months after my first and if my recovery is anything like it was the last time, it's going to be hard not picking up the twins, or being able to play much with them.

My singleton pregnancy was easier. I was sick with the twins till wk 17, this time I only got sick 1x.
I think the hardest part of the pregnancy was chasing after 2 two year olds.

I am wondering if dr kofinas would put in a cerclage proactively?? my cervix was short from like 10 weeks so I doubt it was bc of the weight of twins. My biggest fear is being on bedrest again.

Re: Those who have twins and another DC

My twins were my second pregnancy. I had a DS first. TBH - my pregnancy with my DS was a PITA. High blood pressure starting at 29 weeks. Severe swelling. 2 hospital stays prior to delivery for observation.

My pregnancy with the twins was a walk in the park compared to my pregnancy with DS. Never had high blood pressure. Never hospitalized prior to delivery. The only thing that was inconvenient was there were a lot more appointments since multiples are considered high risk pregnancies.

I didn't have MS with DS and did with the twins. But it only lasted the first trimester.

For me, the pregnancies were completely different.

I am sure he would monitor you closely and if there was even the slightest sign of change, he would do a cerclage right away. I think you can even opt to have it too! But you never know! Every pregnancy is different. Bedrest is definitely one of my biggest fears as far as the pregnancy goes right now too! Especially having the twins! It would just be too hard!

Re: Those who have twins and another DC

My twins were my second pregnancy. My first pregnancy with my DD was so easy. I felt great the whole time. When I was pg with the twins, I was nauseous & got sick alot. I also got sick with an ear infection, sinus infection, and bronchitis. Not fun. I was so much more tired. I carried big babies (they weighed 15 pounds combined) and towards the end I had trouble breathing & it was hard to get around. I was huge. Other than that, I had a pretty uneventful pregnancy both times. I carried the twins full term (38w3d) and had c-sections both times. I definitely think being pregnant with 1 baby was much easier overall.
