oh wow that's so scary , why wouldn't they numb the area if you need stitches? Chat Icon Chat Icon

They do numb you, but it's just a little local anesthetic, and it's very common to still feel some of it. For me, I remember feeling it both times- but what I felt was a couple little pinches and some pulling. It was uncomfortable, but not terrible.

Not every woman needs stitches- only if you tear or have an episiotomy. But, I would say most women have one or both.

I don't remember feeling the stitches at all and I had an epi too. I think I was too preoccupied with watching DD being cleaned up and weighed Chat Icon

I felt it...along with everything else Chat Icon. But for some reason, pushing the baby out didn't bother me nearly as much as the stitches. I kept yelling, um I feel that, I feel that, can you please numb it or something Chat Icon

Bingo!! And I had an epidural too... So annoying and uncomfortable... I am dreading that part again. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I tore with all three and didn't feel the stitching at all. I felt the "pulling", but no pain.

Re: TMI warning: question for those that had vaginal delivery

I thought delivering the placenta hurt worse then the stitches. I had no epi and just a local for the stitches. I also didnt tear that bad. I guess that is a perk of having preemies. My biggest twin was 3lb 8 oz and i know what that felt like. I dont want to imagine what an 8lb baby's head feels like.

Re: TMI warning: question for those that had vaginal delivery

You only require stitching if you tear or are given an episiotomy. My DS came out in 3 pushes, 5 minutes so I tore pretty bad but that didn't hurt half as much as the stitching or the lidocaine needle to numb the area :( bringing back bad memories lol but luckily I was too relieved that it was over to really be in agony.

Re: TMI warning: question for those that had vaginal delivery

I felt nothing thanks to the epidural. It took me a long time to heal afterwards though.

Not sure if this helped, but I held out on my epidural for a long time. Once I got my epidural I went from 7-10cm in an hour and then started pushing. So Maybe my epidural was really strong.

it hurt, but honestly no big deal for me. i was staring at my baby, holding my baby, talking on the phone to announce my baby's birth, all why they were doing this. there were a few ow ows along the way, but i was so happy, it didn't matter

Re: TMI warning: question for those that had vaginal delivery

I did not feel the stitching at all. I was chatting with the dr and DH and nurses. I do not know what they used but I had no drugs at all for delivery so it had to be something local.

I had a godawful delivery and I did not feel the stitches at all!

My OB used a local anasthetic right before DD was born. . . and then ANOTHER shot of it before the resident stitched me up. I was laying there under these warming blankets being a chatty Cathy LOL I did not feel a single stitch!

Re: TMI warning: question for those that had vaginal delivery

The EPI worked really good on me because I didn't even feel the baby coming out, the doctor had to tell me it was time to push because she saw her head, i had no idea.

I felt them tugging but I wouldn't call it pain. It took quite awhile down there and I asked her if she was knitting a blanlet!

Re: TMI warning: question for those that had vaginal delivery

Felt it - but then they upped my epi and made it a bit better. It was nothing compared to the delivery and delivering the placenta....that hurt like sh!t.

All worth it....looking forward to doing it again!

Re: TMI warning: question for those that had vaginal delivery

YES!! And no one warned me about this part. I was so exhilerated from the delivery that it didn't bother me TOO much. But I did have to hold myself back from kicking the doctor and resident in the face a few times Chat Icon

My OB let the resident do most of it while he coached her so I think it took twice as long Chat Icon Chat Icon

(I tore internally and was cut)

ETA: I agree it was worse than pushing her out- although I only had to push for a few minutes and stictching felt like hours

Re: TMI warning: question for those that had vaginal delivery

It was horrible Chat Icon I had a very painful, drug-free delivery and it hurt worse than the pushing! I asked her to numb it (she said she did) but the local didn't work for me, it never does Chat Icon
