Do you tend to stick to one author for a while?

If you found a book from a prolific author, do you tend to stay with them for some or all of their books, or do you just treat each book on its own, and don't follow the author with subsequent books you read?

I tend to stick to an author. If I like what they write, I figure I'll probably like other books that they write. I've read almost all Stephen King's books, and now I'm having a run with Dean Koontz.

Yes.....it makes me so happy to find an author like that. In high school it was John Grisham. Since then I've done it with:

Jeffrey Archer
Maeve Binchy
Elin Hildebrandt

I will still read their newest (usually) but I love spending a summer, or whatever, with one author!

Usually this is true. However, there are some authors I haven't been able to stick with, like Stephen King. I've read some good and some bad from him, so I wait for th general consensus on one of his books before I pick it up. Steve Berry was also like that for me. I started reading everything of his, and then found two that just didn't do it for me and haven't picked him up again. I know it can be hard for everybook an author write to be a hit, but when I was younger, I read every Anne McCaffrey--she could do no wrong.

I do find that I get on a kick for awhile... whether it's for an author or a certain genre. And then one day I'll just get REALLY tired of it and need something tht goes in the total opposite direction. Like I'll go from a series like the Shopaholic series to reading some Stephen King books.

I'll do that when I "discover" a new author I really like.

Every Summer I pick an author and read all their works. If they write something after I've read everything else by them, I will automatically read that book. Otherwise, during the rest of the year I read what I like.

I'm like this too. I'll read a ton of vampire books, then switch to historical fiction, lol.

yes - done that in the past few years with Elizabeth George, Greg Isles, Lee Child, Harlan Coben, Linda Fairstein, Daniel Silva and have liked pretty much everything they've written.

Most of the time, an author and their style of writing is like an old friend - familiar and comforting. Sometimes though when you read all the books by a particular author, you can see where they changed their style and it's not always for the best

I used to love all the older books written by Patricia Cornwell, until the past 10 years or so when all the books just got so depressing.

Also, when i first read Anne Rice (in high school), i then went on to read every single book she had (loooved the Mayfair Witches book) but found that as she continuted writing, her style changed and she became much more out there and had a religious overtones to the books that turned me off.

So if i do find an author i like, i do try and read the other books, but they're not always consistent

I read the Vampire Chronicles and I have read the first two Christ the Lord books and I actually thought they were PHENOMENAL. So thought provoking. They're kind of like a historical fiction "What if" about Jesus' life. Like what would his every day life have been like based on the time? I actually found them to not only be entertaining, detailed and beautifully written, but profoundly spiritual. But they really weren't preachy. She told the story just like her other stories. I can't wait for teh 3rd one.

I read Stephen King a lot when I was younger. i'll occasionally pick up a book of his. I'm thinking of reading the Vampire CHronicles again. I read those in HS, but stopped when something I REALLY didn't like happenned and it also crossed with Mayfair witches which I had not read.

I LOVE Tom Robbins. In HS I read one of his books and then read the rest that were out. He's one author whose books I will pre-order any time one comes out. Even his book of essays and the "children's" book.

I love John Irving. I read like a few of his books in a row, then another few. I haven't read them all.

Jonathan Safran Foer (He wrote Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, btw), is also a favorite of mine and I'll read anything he puts out. Seriously.

If I find an author I like I will start to read other books if they interest me, but not every single book. I'll takke a break and I'll go back.
