*UPDATE and THANK-YOU AT BOTTOM OF POST* Can Anyone Recommend an EXCELLENT Surgeon To Have a Gallbladder Removed?
Someone I know just found out they have stones. Is anyone familiar, has had them or any experience on whether they usually do have to remove your gallbladder or can you be OK without the surgery? They just found out and they're flipping out!
TIA
*PLEASE don't remove post and send to the HEALTH board, this board gets way more traffic.
Thanks

YES. YES. YES. We took DivaBride's rec and DH had Denoto remove his gallbladder. Love that man. What a skilled surgeon, top notch surgeon. LOL And he's a cutie too.

I had Dr. Patane from Huntington Hospital, with Dr. Zingale assisting. Both were fantastic!

Just had mine done in November. I used Dr. Jarred Huston from Stonybrook. I was back to work within a week even with lung problems (not Dr's fault... my bodies fault).

Dr. Ward at NSUH with Pro Health.
And to answer your other question, I don't think you NEED to have your gallbladder removed if it has stones unless the stones are becoming symptomatic. However, from what I understand, I think most people with stones eventually become symptomatic.

This, most of the time your getting stones because the disease is not functioning properly. I had mine out a little over a year ago, and I had been having gallbladder attacks for a couple of years, but they couldn't find any stones, they finally found stones in one test and they decided to take it out. Turns out that my gallbladder was not functioning and was so diseased that it had started growing into other organs to stay alive. I had my surgery and it went great within a week I was back to work with no issues since then. I can't really give a recommendation since I am in Massachusetts but its a very common surgery.

Re: Can Anyone Recommend an EXCELLENT Surgeon To Have a Gallbladder Removed?
Thank you so much everyone for your recommendations/insight. I might as well let the cat out of the bag(couldn't deal with it yesterday) and tell you I am talking about myself. I'm just so down about it right now because I was just in the hospital in August for a week having stomach surgery to remove my 5-year old lapband because it eroded in my stomach! Up until this year I never dealt with all these health issues. As for the Gallbladder, I've had a terrible stomach for a few years and most recently the past two weeks I've had a non-stop stomach problem whenever I eat. I went to my DR who sent me for a sonogram and low and behold I have stones. Now I just need to find a GREAT surgeon who takes my insurance, GHI(I'm a city teacher)
Thanks again, I really am very nervous

GB surgery is not bad at all! I actually had a really bad GB and stones in my bile duct. I had two surgeries. Of all the surgeries, this one isn't that bad! Good luck with everything.

Re: *UPDATE and THANK-YOU AT BOTTOM OF POST* Can Anyone Recommend an EXCELLENT Surgeon To Have a Gallbladder Removed?
I'm going through the exact same thing myself except I am 33 weeks pregnant and they won't touch me with a 10 foot pole. I've had 2 attacks in the past 2 months and they won't give me meds or anything for the pain, they just tell me to ride out the attacks and to watch what I eat. I feel like I can't eat anything, even healthy stuff, I am in constant pain all the time. I can't wait to give birth so I can get the surgery. I was going to try for a VBAC but I'm in constant pain and discomfort that I may cave and just get the c-section so I can have this baby earlier. The larger he gets, the more he moves into my gallbladder, I'm scared for the next few weeks :(

Yes! DITTO! No more pain, no more awful awful attacks I am a HUGE baby and I will tell you- the surgery was nothing. I had surgery at 11 am and was released by 4 pm I went out to dinner with DH the next night! I barely took the pain killers Best thing I ever did was get it removed. You will be fine!!!

Re: *UPDATE and THANK-YOU AT BOTTOM OF POST* Can Anyone Recommend an EXCELLENT Surgeon To Have a Gallbladder Removed?
Get the surgery soon. I put mine off since I didn't want to get it done during tax season. I even tried to flush my gallblader with some olive oil and grapefruit juice conconction, but it did not help. I had such a bad attack and had to stay in the hospital for a week before they would take it out, since they thought I had a blockage in the bile duct. The attacks keep getting worse and worse and happening more frequently.
I had mine out by Dr Castro in Great South Bay Surgical. My Dr recommended them to me but I never went. They happened to be the Dr who I got at the hospital and I was very happy with them.

I had mine done by Dr. Nick Gabriel in St. Catherines - everything went great. Easy recovery! He also does Gastro surgery, so he is probably familiar with the other issues you have faced recently.
They did keep me overnight, which was fine with me.
Don't worry - the recovery is actually a piece of cake compared to the attacks!

I second Halpern. He took out my appendix and just did surgery to remove cancer from my aunts breast last week. My mom also sees him regularly (breast cancer runs in our family and all mammographies are read by a surgeon). He is such a sweetheart.
