Re: Need DOE help - quick please
per session is like $40/hr, so its someting- but I don't know where you are on the payscale to say whether or not it will work out to be fair to you.
I would really demand to know what the payroll problem is. the payroll secretary should be able to figure this out, its her sole responsibility!
ETA: if talking to rep is going to "piss people off" they should do the right thing in the first place. i would be "pissed off" if i worked for free for 7 days!

Re: Need DOE help - quick please
I would 100% NOT accept that! You worked 7 more days and you need to be paid. It sounds like you have a very incompetent payroll secretary like I had at my old school. I would most definitely call the union and speak to someone who deals with payroll IMMEDIATELY! If they knew that the other teacher was being paid until that date and didn't have the $ in their budget to pay you then they should have started you at a later date. Totally there fault, not yours and now they need to figure this out! I am SO mad for you, SO typical of the city school system. VERY sorry for you.
Good Luck!
PS. I do understand where you are coming from in the sense that its a new job, etc, etc but if you let them get away with murder now than what else will they try to get away with, KWIM?

Re: Need DOE help - quick please
WHO will you piss off? Honestly, if anyone in your building is ok with you working for FREE, you should not care what they think. You earned that money and you need to fight for what you are entitled too. I know this is easier said than done in DOE land but if you cave you will be setting yourself up for future situations where they take advantage of you.
I really don't see why they can't pay you- and they screwed up- so you should not have to suffer.
Being paid as per session could be to your advantage but find out what your principal means by "most" of the hours.
Sorry, but something stinks here. Payroll secs make mistakes, even if this was not the case there has to be a way they can fix it. But don't let it go!
