is my idea too strange
Ok my twins turn one in august. But i still want to do a winter one derland theme
you can tell by name i love snow and snowflakes - a little more history, i had a love for all seasons wedding - just so i could have winter ballroom in august.
my ideas are to have fake snow in a baby pool for kids to play with
have fake icebergs floating in the pool
have snowflakes decorate all around and maybe serve ice hot chocaltes
and the invite may something to the effect oh the weather outside is frightful (crossed out) beautiful (on top) let it snow let it snow for G and H as they turn one in a winter one der land
but would you think it is totally bizarre to go to a winter one derland theme in august
oh i am not having any more kids so there is no next time

Re: is my idea too strange
Sorry but I think it's forced no matter what. Also I think the reality of how it will actually be will not match this snowy summer wonderland that it's easy to imagine but not easy or affordable to create. Maybe my answer is mostly no but if you were crazy rich and spending like 100 grand on an ice bar, snow machines, etc. it could be cool. Still random though.

Re: is my idea too strange
The only relevance i could see to having snow/ice in August would be as a reference to how hot summer is and that it's a 'cool things down during the hot summer' type of party. Winter wonderland would seem completely irrelevant IMO.
i agree with a PP that it's a bit forced and strange.
But if your family/friends know that that's your thing.. maybe they won't find it so strange I think i would wonder why you were doing this for the kids party though. Seems like instead of doing a theme that was for them, this is more for you.
And i'd be worried about babies eating fake snow as well..
eta for spelling

I would not personally do it. I think it seems odd to be honest.

Re: is my idea too strange
The weather outsides delightful This winter was barely frightful Our first year is about to go So lets make it snow, make it snow, make it snow
I clearly have too much time on my hands. Lol. Sing that to baby it's cold outside. It is a little strange to do winter in Aug but you can make it work. I wouldnt call it winter onederland though. Just use the theme make it crazy and it will work.

This is cute.
Why not? It's a first birthday, I think it is a cute idea.

I think it's cute. You should throw some penguin decorations in there.

Re: is my idea too strange
I think it has the potential to be an amazing theme, but it could be hard to create and execute your vision. If you go all-out and over the top, it will be adorable!

I think it will be fun, go for it! And if it's really hot in August, people might like the idea of snow, ice and winter!

Re: is my idea too strange
I'm sorry, but I'm not crazy about the idea. I get that you love snow - I'm the opposite, I love summer, but I wouldn't have a summer themed party for DD's birthday in December

I like it. I did a Christmas in July once - my family thought it was silly but went with it and I think they had a good time.

LOVE the idea, very unique!
I agree with a PP about the babies eating the fake snow, but like the idea. Maybe fill it with something white that they could swim in like ping pong balls (I "think" they are on OK size)

Re: is my idea too strange
Not loving it, sorry. The last thing I want to think about in August is the craziness of the holidays & winter.
And like a PP said, 1 yr olds and fake snow don't mix, I think you would need a different material.

Why not? In the camp I worked in, we had Halloween in July. Why not Winter Wonderland in August?

Totally agree! In my, ahem...younger days...my local bar always did "Christmas in July" and it was so much fun. Also, my DDs' preschool has a winter beach party for which they come dressed in bathing suits and sunglasses. They bring a towel and have a picnic on the "beach" while listening to surf music, etc.
I think it would be so memorable! I had an Oktoberfest for my son's 1st birthday this past fall. I first polled people on here and my idea got a split vote. I did it anyway (because, really, in the end if you like it that's all that matters) and let me tell you...it was a blast, albeit an unusual blast, for a 1st birthday. Do it! Do it!
