27 weeks w twins and vacation?

Hi ladies...

So I had a question for all you moms of twins... I will be 27 weeks this July when my friends and I were planning a vacation to LBI. It is a 2 1/2 hour drive away and I will be taking my son. My DH may be coming toward the end of the week but is trying to be there the whole week.

I havent spoken to my doctor about it yet, but my friend needs to tell the owner of the house and put down a deposit.

Would I be ok to go???? I know thats impossible to answer and things change and I dont know how my body will be, but knowing what you went through - would you go?? How were you around 25-30 weeks??

Any advice would be great!! thanks

My pregnancy was not smooth at all so I would not have been allowed to go. I had to cancel a trip to florida to see my sister at 10 weeks because of a short cervix.

With that being said I would have been able to physically do it I think. I worked part time until 30 weeks working with kids with disabilities. I was on and off the floor all day and on my feet alot. I was able to do it but was just tired at the end of the day.

I would def ask your dr? unfortunately you may not know till last minute though.

Hmmm Im not sure. If you were pregnant with one I would say that you should definitely go. But twins always complicates everything. I personally was put on bedrest at 24 weeks b/c my cervix was shortened and I ended up with an emergency csection at 30 weeks. But everyone's different. Many twin mommies go easily to at least 37 weeks. It's rough too b/c you need to make a decision now and you have no idea what could happen between now and then.

Clearly Im not being of any help here. Chat Icon I guess I would go by what your dr. says.

Re: 27 weeks w twins and vacation?

i just went to newport , ri at 27 weeks.

i was fine in the car- was a 2.5 hr car ride. my dh stopped if i needed to use the restroom..

i actually found it more relaxing than being at home- i tend to clean the house, do laundry and light chores when i am home. so getting away for a few days was awesome.

i guess if you are having a rought pregnancy, know where the nearest hospital is if anything were to happen.

im no dr, but i see no issue with it!

Re: 27 weeks w twins and vacation?

thank you ladies! I really wanted to get everyone's experience.

its true - you never know - i could have a smooth pregnancy or not so much. and the tough part is I have to give an answer now for july!!

My friends said not to worry if I cant go, when the time comes, they would try and find another friend, but I feel bad putting them in a position where they might have to pay more or scrabble to find another person to fill the spot.

I guess I will speak to my DH again and make a decision by monday.. thanks

Re: 27 weeks w twins and vacation?

my pregnancy was smooth sailing and at 23 weeks i had a high risk dr appointment and everything was perfect.

one week later at my regular ob appt at 24 weeks my cervix was extremely short and was a cm dilated and was sent to the hospital immediately. I stayed in the hospital until the babies were born at 27wk 5d.

I am not saying don't go, but just make sure you talk to your doctor and are comfortable. Things can change really quickly. If something does happen you would be far away from home. It would be a lot of stress having babies in a NICU so far from home. Just something to think about.

Re: 27 weeks w twins and vacation?

I had a very short cervix from 15 weeks on and I was on some version of bed rest from 16 weeks on, including a cerclage at 17 weeks and hospital bed rest for a week at 24 weeks for pre-term labor and contractions 5 minutes apart that I wasn't feeling. My water broke at 31w6d and that's when I delivered.

As long as there isn't anything "wrong" and you are physically up for the drive and handling DS alone (sort of), I say go.

We just took a trip to PA (2.5 hr ride) last week and it was worth the break from the daily routine. Our friends were amazing and didn't let me lift a finger... I'm sure you'll have the same experience.

I say go for it (pending doctor's approval of course Chat Icon )

Re: 27 weeks w twins and vacation?

My twin pregnancy was relatively smoother than my pregnancy with my DS. And I was very active until the day I gave birth (at 37w2d). But I was never put on any type of bedrest and had zero cervix issues (which is very common in twin pregnancies).

I feel like with twins the pregnancy could take a turn at the drop of a hat. So if it were me, I'd probably stay home.

But if your OB sees no problem with it, and you feel up to it, go and have a good time!

Re: 27 weeks w twins and vacation?

I went to a wedding with DH 3 hrs away in Connecticut when I was 29 weeks. The travel in the car was TERRIBLE for me. Every bump hurt and I couldn't wait to get home. I was also zero fun at the wedding. My situation might be a little diff though, I seemed to have WAYYYY more pressure "down there" than other twin mommies to be seem to have. I had bad bruising and stretching from like 16 weeks on.
