Does anyone use potpourri?

I have been looking high and low for something to put in the bathroom to make it smell good. DH bought a bag of potpourri and we put it in a basket in the bathroom but there is no smell. Are we supposed put something on it to make it smell? I thought that the potpourri itself should make the bathroom smell but its not working Chat Icon TIA!

Re: Does anyone use potpourri?

When I was little my mom had a bowl filled with rose petals and she would spray rose oil on it to bring out the fragrance. She also had an orange mixture too and had the orange oil. I think she used to get it at Fortunoffs but I have not seen potpourri in a long time. What I have in my bathroom is a room spray from Jonathan Adler, Happy Home. I got this at Costco

I think potpourri loses its scent after a while. And even when you get a fresh bag, it really only smells if you're close up to it. When potpourri was very popular, people would buy potpourri burners, put the potpourri in with a bit of water and "simmer" it...this would make the whole room smell. Now, I use one of the plug in scent things from Yankee Candle.

Do make the bathroom continually smell good without having to spray, I use a diffuser with scented oils or they have this thing, I think by Glade that is motion censored so it goes off just by a person walking past it usually. So, thats not exactly continual but you dont have to spray. The only thing with those is that I find them WAY overpowering but then again we also have a small bath with no window so Im sure they are fine in other conditions. And yes, I have I guess what you would call something like potpourri and it doesn't smell unless you put your nose in it.lol

Homegoods usually has nice smelling Potpourri. Potpourri will naturally lose its smell after awhile, but you should get at month or two out of it. I have potpourri from December still out and while the smell is faint, when you go close you can still smell it.

I haven't tried this yet but I saw it on Pinterest and it sounded like a good idea. Every time you put out a new roll of TP put a drop or two of your favorite scented oil in the inside of the cardboard paper TP roll. It's suppose to keep the bathroom smelling nice and every time the TP roll spins it releases more scent. Chat Icon

I use the oils from bath and body works. They work great. Some days, I find them to be too strong and unplug. They sell a ceramic dish and you pour oil, I add some water to it, and you plug it in to warm and smell diffuses. Also, I have reed diffuser from Home Goods, but oil works better and I change scent for the season.

I sometimes use potpourri got them from Kohls they lose their scents quick.

I love the reed diffusers I recently discovered that Pier 1 is the only ones that actually smell.

Also use the Bath and Body works plug ins
