taking toddlers out to car

I used to use the exersaucer to keep one baby in the house while I put the other in the car. I can't really use it anymore they hate it and pretty much can climb out.

My twins are 13 months and just started walking so I don't think I could get them both out together.

I have been leaving DD inside. I close all the doors to bedrooms and bathroom and everything is baby proofed. I leave her there and she usually is waiting by the door when I come backChat Icon Chat Icon but I feel weird leaving her?

what do you (or did you) girls do?

i used to leave DD b/c i knew she was the one who didn't get in trouble as much.

but more often i would take them together. DS walked better so i would hold DD and have DS walk next to me. then put them both in the back of the van and buckle them in.

I use the highchairs. I will keep 1 in the highchair while strapping the other in the car. Run in, grab the other, lock the door and get the other one settled in the car. Mine are 14 months and they don't walk yet. I do the same thing to get them in the house too. I bring one in, strap them in the highchair quickly and run out and grab the other one.

I either carried them both out at the same time OR left whoever was in the better mood by the front door and would just come back for him. I didn't let them walk out on their own until a few months ago.

I used to have a pack and play in my foyer, and I would make two trips - leaving one in the pack & play.

Re: taking toddlers out to car

I'm so dreading this! I live on the second floor of the house (I have a mother/daughter with my parents) and this is the exact reason they are still in the infant carriers!!!

I have a mini van. So if it were me, I'd probably carry the girls to the van and let them sit on the floor while I strapped them in. Then run back into the house to get my bag and anything else I need.

Thanks everyone! I tried carrying both of them today and once we got down the stairs I let DD walk and then sat her in the van while I got DS in the car seat. That worked too. Its good to know I am not the only one who leaves one in the house though

Re: taking toddlers out to car

i do one of two things,
i either walk both to the car and let one stand in the car while i get the other in her car seat
or
i also bring one to the car and leave the other in the house, my car is always right in front of my house, and we have an entrance where there is a closet and then a second door so my dd is kind of locked in that small area and i know she can't get hurt or in trouble

Re: taking toddlers out to car

i live on the second floor. so what i do is take my diaper bag and purse and put them in the car. then i will walk down with both. i walk backwards down the stairs and hold their hand, then when we get down the stairs i will lift up one and walk with the other. when we get to the car i put one standing in the back seat and the other i strap in. then i grab the other one and do the same thing. phew!!!!! i'm exhausted just typing that!!!!

Re: taking toddlers out to car

It all depends on the weather....if its raining I carry one out to the car at at time...if its nice out we all walk out together get into the car seats then I go and lock up the house. Before they were walking I use to take one out and leave the others in the house in a fenced in area....LOL

Re: taking toddlers out to car

I am so relieved that I am not the only one leaving one child in the house while putting the other one in the car! I haven't been able to figure out another way since they are not walking yet and have outgrown the infant carrier. I still feel guilty even though my car is directly in front of my house and all doors on the car and house are locked.
