Re: Could use advise from the experts

First off- congratulations!!! And welcome to the amazing, elite club of multiple Moms!!

Its an emotional roller coaster - going from 0-2 so fast....and its very overwhelming.....one day you dont think you can get pregnant so you are going on with your life- the next your world is turned completely upside down and you are pregnant with 2!

First off I will say that you can and will be ready for these babies and you will be amazed at how supportive and generous people are.

Second- anyone saying anything negative like _ how will you handle two? you must be so scared? all of that BS- DONT LISTEN TO THEM. They are wrong and STUPID.

All you will know is raising two. You will laugh at your friends with one child who complain- because you know that it can never really be THAT BAD. You will feel like a super star because you can and WILL juggle two babies...

Third- you are not alone- there are many MoMs (Moms of multiples) who you need to connect with- on FB or your local MoM Group on Big Tent. Connect and chat with them. Go to meetings and tag sales. Get to nkwo them. Nothing is better than a huge support system of people who are in the exact same position as you.

Fourth- Read books and start now. Knowledge is power and I find that the more prepared I am for something, the less scary it is. Start with Dr Lukes book and then buy a few more dealing with twins...you will feel better and confident.

Fifth- talk to your partner and discuss your concerns and how you will address them. Talk to your family and friends and I am sure many of them willl offer help. Ill bet they are all over the moon with excitement, too! Accept their offers and thier presents!

We are all here if you need anything....and us MoM's all have been through the same emotions at some point in the pregnany- whether at the beginning, end or both.

Oh- just to add- just bc you are pregnant with twins you should not be feeling doubly sick or anything....I think anything you would have now would be the sama as if you were pregnant with just one baby. But hang in there- week 13-14 your normalcy will come back as if a light was turned on. Your energy will return and the sickness should go away.....

Wow, what an unbelievably supportive response! And from a stranger nonetheless, THANK YOU!!! As I said to some of the girls earlier, today is a MUCH better day. Im feeling better and actually starting to get really really excited Chat Icon Chat Icon
I also had no idea there were as many resources as you pointed out. I am always calmer and more rational once I have more knowledge so I will have to leverage all those things you mentioned!

Im going back to the Dr tomorrow (my regular ob) to check heart rates and all that jazz. Im excited once again!

Sincerely, thank you so much for the confidence boosting message and for showing me that there's a group of women who have felt this way before.. most importantly that I can connect with them! You truly have made a difference for me, Thank you!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Could use advise from the experts

Congratulations! I am so excited or you.

I had natural twins to my shock and they do not run in my family. It's no ones business so when anyone asked that question all I said was no. If they inquired more, I would have told them to beat it. I always kept the conversation moving though. But in all honesty if I had to have IVF, I wouldn't mind telling people. But for the grace of God and medical science, my cousin would not be a mother today to her beautiful girls. People are ignorant though so that's why I decided against chatting with people about the "how" of getting pregnant.

I had a great pregnancy and hope the same for you. I had a two year old when they were born and thought at least I have some experience. That went right out the window. I wish I had the twins first. My DS needed constant attention and wanted me to play with him. I was a tad stressed trying to meet all three of their needs. But we are moms and we find a way.

Feel free to hit up this board for registry help and the like.

Good luck and congratulations again!

thanks so much for this!!
Each day gets a little better. I went for dinner with a friend of mine who is also pg last night and we talked so much about fears/thoughts, etc. Im so glad to know I am not alone... Its crazzy how noone really talks about how these hormones make you totaly nutty! Everyone expects you to glow and be excited when the truth of the matter is that its downright frightening! I am a bit more excited than I was earlier in the week. Today is the first day I didnt shed one tear and feel excited about the idea of having two!
the hardest part is feeling guilty for having cried and prayed to be in this position and that not to be entirely over the moon about it. Its so weird!
And you're right, it's noones business and twins can happen out of nowhere.
Are yours identical?
Thanks for sharing your experience. I will definitely be using this board to learn from all of you ladies.
There's so much to know!!!

Re: Could use advise from the experts

Congratulations! While it is hard to overcome the nerves, it is such an exciting and happy time!

I get the question all the time "Were your twins naturally conceived" and although mine were it doesn't make any other form of conception less special. And it certainly no one's business. It's like asking someone "Do you have sex doggie style". That question really gets me going and I hate that people find the need to even ask.

While the last thing I ever expected was to have twins I cannot possibly imagine my life any other way. My DS instantly had 2 best friends. And my girls share a magical bond that only they truly understand.

This site has been a blessing. So many wonderful MoMs that have been able to offer support, advice, and even even gear! Chat Icon

My best advice -

Use us, we have all been in your shoes.

Accept help and never be afraid to ask for help. From family, friends, anyone. Newborns x2, infant x2, toddler x2 is a lot of work! Whoever is willing to help, take them up on their offer, you'll appreciate it. Whether it is someone that wants to help give a bath, or a bottle, or even a few outfits. It will all help.

Sleep when they sleep! Especially in the beginning!

Speak openly with your SO. If you feel they aren't pulling their weight, or stepping on your toes, make sure the lines of communication are always open. There is nothing worse than feeling frustrated/aggravated/upset with your SO and feeling like you can't discuss it. Pent up emotions aren't good for you, your blessings, or your relationship.

Hang in there. With time you will feel overjoyed and grateful for such an amazing journey! Chat Icon
