IUI questions
Has anyone had luck with this? We have been trying just about a year and have an appt with by dr in 2 weeks. She told me she would recommend some infertility specialists and they may suggest IUI. I have read online a little about it, but have some questions. How greater are the chances of getting pregnant with this method? Are there side effects? Do most insurances cover this procedure? Is there a greater chance of having multiples?

Re: IUI questions
I did 3 IUIs without success. Moved onto IVF and 3 years later finally had success.
It really depends on what your issues are. If it's a male factor, than IUI can be helpful if the reason is sperm isn't moving past cervix or your body is killing off sperm.
If it's egg quality or a tubal issue, IVF may be the best route. Doctors start with IUI as the least aggressive treatment. They rule things out as the go along.
I'd recommend getting yourself to Dr. Braverman who address immunological issues as well as the issues I mentioned above.
I went through 3 RE's before going to him. He still took 2 years to keep me pregnant but he will always change things up. He doesn't take insurance.
You can use him for the immunological part and the IUI have done by dr. who accepts your insurance.
Good Luck in your decision

Re: IUI questions
I got pregnant after my second IUI... first I did a bunch of months of clomid plus timed intercourse which did not work so we moved onto IUI. I have GHI and so IUI's were covered fortunately. I have to say though with the 2nd IUI DH's count rose a lot (first IUI was 5 million and second IUI was 38 million) so I think that had something to do with the success the second time too. If you have any questions let me know.

I had 4 iui with no luck. But everyone is different. I think a lot depends on what issues you have.
Once again your chances depend on what and if you have any issues.
I don't think there are any side effects to iui themselves but if you are put on any meds there may be side effects to those. Some issues cover it sme don't. You should call your insurance company. Mine covered unlimited iui's.
If younger taking drugs to increase egg production then there is an increased chance of multiples if you produce more then one egg. But if you only produce one eggs or changes of multiples is pretty much the same as if you got pregnant on your own

Re: IUI questions
I got pregnant with my triplets during my first medicated IUI. It was definitely a big surprise that we got pregnant with 3. Put it honestly depends on what problems you and your DH have. I had 3 previous MCs, so we didn't have problems getting pregnant, just staying pregnant. I was put on predisone while TTC naturally, and after 2 months, my RE said we could either do an IUI this month, or you will have to take a few months off. He didnt want me on the predisone for too many consecutive months since I was on a very high dose. Long story short...our first IUI worked and now I am bless with 8 month old and I couldn't be happier!!

Re: IUI questions
I got pregnant on my 3rd IUI and carried to 17wks which is when I had a loss from complications (unrelated to the IUI or the drugs I took)... Ultimately I moved on to IVF, although now I'm getting a surrogate... long story... IUIs work for many people!!

Re: IUI questions
I got pregnant on my 2nd IUI with injectables. We had tried medicated cycles before that and then an IUI with femara, I stalled both times.

Re: IUI questions
I got pregnant with my twins with my first IUI. I tried Clomid by itself the first month and when that didnt work we did CLomid again but went with the IUI. If it is just an IUI I dont believe your chance in multiples should go up. However if it's medicated like mine I was told there's a 7% chance, at least that was with Clomid. Apparently I was part of that 7%

Re: IUI questions
My twins were conceived via IUI
The first one we did with femara and it didn't work.
The second one femara and follistim and
I think it totally depends on your issues. I had male issues and I was not ovulating.
Don't get discouraged if the 1st one doesn't work

Re: IUI questions
Our issues were I have pcos and produce a sperm killing antibody. I had 3 iuis/clomid in 2010 and our third was a sucess resulting in dd. I'm 31 weeks pg with dd2 after our first iui in Septemeber 11. Some cycles I produced a lot of mature follies which could have resulted in multiples but those cyles ended with bfn. Both of my pg resulted in one mature follie.
