I said this on the other thread and I will say it again here..... It's not intended to be the next great American (or British, for that matter) novel. It's meant to be erotic fan fiction. It accomplished that. I think if you read it looking for a great read, you will be very disappointed. If you read it looking for some arousing scenes and a little  than you probably will not be disappointed.

I have no interest in reading it, but I'm intrigued (and kind of confused) by the mixed messages the author is sending...
The cover story of Entertainment Weekly is 50 Shades and the splash its made... and she says she won't give her real last name to maintain her anonymity... but then she gives her real first name, mentions where she lives, how old her kids are, and lets them print a photo... so ... yeah. I'm not buying the desire to stay anonymous...

I think the problem is that the people who are reading this are not romance or erotic novel fans so they are not used to the style or writing. And yeah, its getting annoying to hear about LOL

I said this on the other thread. It's just like porn. Bad dialog, very little plot & they have sex every 3 pages.
I've read erotica (and herotica) before. 50 Shades of Grey is still badly written. I'm surprised it was written by a woman with the "I'm going to take you now. It's going to be hard & fast"

Nope, I'm with you.
Reading it now. The parts that aren't errotic reminds me of a teen book. It's poorly written and the charectors have no depth.
I'm also not that far into the first book though so I'm only reading from that experience.
The errotic parts are kinky and fun to read, but everything else is 
The main charectors are boring and not likeable. Ana is too naive.
Come on now... how believable is it that this girl is 23 or so, absolutely stunning, but doesn't know it... is a virgin, doesn't drink and all these men love her. Oh, and the inner goddess she suddenly found in herself.
How does Christian make money if he's never working?!

Evidently it is an erotic love letter to Twilight. I hated that series and this one REALLY reminded me of it - and then Stacey told me it was a Twilight fan fic and the lights went off.
I did NOT expect it to be a great read and wasn't expecting the next great novel. I knew it was erotic lit and I knew it was going to be light.. but I did expect to have at least some connection to the characters but they are all SOOOO cartoonish and ridiculous. It's not even good bad lit.

If you google master of the universe fan fiction you can find a PDF of it. 50 shades of grey is exactly the same but the names have been changed. The original names were characters from twilight.
This wasnt originally written as a book. It was fan fiction that was published
I feel bad for everyone who paid to read this.

I want to kick the main character, which she might enjoy, for being stupid, needy and whiny.
The sex is actually good  but the "writing" holding those scenes together is so bad!
If she bites that damn lip one more time..........
I downloaded it 2 weeks ago and am only 50% through because I can't stand to read it for more than a few minutes before I want to read a real book

Exactly.
They were a fun, quick read that let my imagination run wild. I wasn't expecting much more from them.

yeah, the writing is really really lame.
if anyone wants to read the book, I have PDF copies of them as they were originally fan fiction done weekly on a fan sight (it was originally written to mirror Twilight so in the version I have all the characters are named the same as Twilight).
