Is there any reason to purchase an iPad at the Apple store over Best Buy?

Finally caved and picking one up tonight but not sure where to get it. Is there any reason to buy at Apple or is it all the same. Thanks!!!

DH and I both bought through Best Buy. We decided to go that route to get reward points

We got ours at the Apple store....I don't know why........also..isn't Best buy going out of business

I wondered the same thing and wound up purchasing at the Apple store because they set everything up for me. Their customer service is excellent- they synced my aps, contacts, etc. I had about 45 minutes of individual instruction on the iPad.

def apple. regret so much getting my iphone at best buy after something happened to it. the worst customer service, and geek squad stinks too. never again. besides, they're going in the way of circuit city & the whiz.

they're craptastic.

we got both iPad and macbook pro from best buy - their warranty is a bit more expensive but they cover everything with the exception of water submersion and theft - whereas applecare is less expensive but covers manufactures defects - does not cover cracked screens if u drop it

i know this from when we bought our stuff in december but my sister said she heard applecare JUST changed their policy and now covers cracked screens and accidental breakage - not sure how true this is

i already had something replaced thru best buy on my macbook no questions asked - it was not under applecare warranty

eta: even though we purchased both our products at best buy we went to the apple store and they helped us - they did not give us an issue at all - they knew we bought it thru best buy - we weren't charged for them to set it up (best buy would have set it up but i wanted to go to the apple store)

I got mine at best buy but, after an experience we had there with a computer I am kind of done shopping there. They do give you a refurb one if it breaks.

I got a computer that totally died 17 days after I bought it. The return period was 15 days. So they wouldn't take it back. I called and emailed everyone on earth and they would only "fix it". A month later I got my computer back and they had wiped out the operating system and didn't send a restore disk. They never mentioned that I would have to order and pay for one. So that was going to take a while to order and get. At that point I exploded and they finally just returned the computer and gave me a new one.

But, honestly, I am done. And I think a few weeks ago they revised the return policy because they got so many complaints.

I just thought I would share that tale. It may influence your decision.

if you want a warrenty, AppleCare plus is great as far as terms for damage etc.

it costs $99 and they will replace it if you drop, crack etc. for a $50 fee.

same on the iphone 4S.


Personally, I bought mine at Apple due to wanting to buy the applecare +. If yoju're going on the weekend, Apple can be nuts. However, they do seem to have a system that works. I really dislike dealing with best buy, the people who don't know what they're talking about and pressure you for accessories and extended warrenties, that there is no help when you need it etc. I avoid that store like the plague.

Thanks guys...I ended up going to the Apple store to get it. They did change the policy and Applecare now covers accidental damage which is great!!

just an FYI, you don't have to buy it from apple to get the apple care. My dad bough this iPad at PCrichards and he got the applecare from them.

We got it at Target. you don't need to buy it at the apple store to get the apple care, which is a waste IMO anyway. DH cracked the screen on his iphone and they wanted $200 to replace it.
