Bronx Zoo, LI Game Farm or White Post?
Which would be the best place to take a 17 month old? Would you recommend one over the others? Is the Bronx Zoo too much for child that age? My daughter is trying to plan a day out next week and isn't sure which would be the best place to take my granddaughter.

I would choose the game farm over White Post farms. We're taking our twins there in May or June. They'll be 17 or 18 months. I'd do bronx zoo too but thinking i might wait a year until they are a little older and can enjoy it more.

Re: Bronx Zoo, LI Game Farm or White Post?
I have never been to the LI Game Farm but I have taken my girls many times to WPF and BZ. I would say either one would be great for 18 months. All the main exhibits are now open at the Zoo (monorail, butterfly, carousel, children's zoo etc) so there would be plenty to see. My girls were going to the zoo at 12 months and enjoyed watching the animals and the carousel.
I personally think you get more out of WPF when they are a bit older and can do more on the play areas. They start charging at WPF at 16 months - whereas the zoo doesn't charge until I believe 3.

I would definitely go to White Post Farms... my son loves it there and he is 16mo.
We actually went to the Bronx Zoo today and I do not recommend it for that age. He could barely see any of the animals and was not very interested.

What about the Queens Zoo? It's the perfect size for little ones and has a petting zoo and carousel as well!
Otherwise, I feel you can never go wrong with WPF...I'm even planning on taking my 17 month old (and 4 and 6 year olds) ths week!

Definitely the Queens Zoo for that age. My child loved it. It's easy to get to, small, manageable and beautifully done. There is an aviary that all the kids go crazy for. Check it out.

I haven't taken my daughter to Bronx Zoo for the LIGF yet (though I've been to both), but we took her to White Post on her first birthday and she LOVED it! She fed the animals. She wasn't scared. She went on the playground. My DH and I had a great time, too.

We liked white post. They have quite a bit of animals that the kids can feed and a big playground. It's also clean. The Bronx Zoo is fun, too! I personally didn't care for the game farm. I thought the whole place was dirty and they actually didn't have a lot of animals when we went.

Re: Bronx Zoo, LI Game Farm or White Post?
LI Game Farm (IMO) was a COMPLETE waste of money. It was so small and rundown. We were done with the whole place in no time. We actually hated it, even my DD didn't have a great day. I was VERY disappointed.
White Post is nice BUT it's SO expensive. By the time you pay to get in, pay to feed the animals, pay for a pony ride, pay for food, etc. etc. you could spend a small fortune. I also don't find White Post to be a full day, it's nice for a few hours or so but not a whole day.
Personally, I would do the Bronx Zoo. We took our DD around that age and she LOOOOVED it! I hadn't been in years and I forgot just how big and how nice it is. We had such a nice day. She loved all of the animals and attractions. I would do the Bronx Zoo for sure!! It's a full day of fun too!!

I always suggest the Animal Farm Petting Zoo over the LI Game Farm.
They provide care and shelter for unwanted animals:
Animal Farm Petting Zoo
We took DS there for the first time when he was 17 months old and he had a great time

For that age, the Holtsville Ecology center is great - they have a ton of animals, a playground and a picnic area. Oh, and it's free
We have been going since my DD was little and she is now 5 and still loves to go - so does my 3 year old. I have found that the animals are enough to be exciting for them, but not so many that it is overwhelming.
