Is it just my kid?
Do your kids lack the ability to actually look for something? I will ask DS to get his shoes, for example, and he comes back a second later and tells me he can't find them. I go to help and they're someplace obvious. It's like he doesn't even bother. He does this with everything, even favorite toys. It's truly like he lacks the ability to look. Or he's just lazy and knows eventually I will help.

Re: Is it just my kid?
My DS is 5, and he does the same exact thing. He can be practically sitting on top of the thing he is "looking" for, but still can't find it. I think he just figures I'll get it for him. So frustrating!!

My son has the same issue: he inherited it from his father.
My daughter, on the other hand, always knows where things are and can almost always successfully find whatever she needs. and she is 2 years younger.

Re: Is it just my kid?
Nope my kid too. But he has ADD so I cut him some slack.
More than get your shoes on, means he's in his room playing with whatever toy he saw first.

Unfortunately my kids and my HUSBAND are all like this. Oh you mean it was two inches to the left of where I said, but you did not see them!

Re: Is it just my kid?
Yep...DS is almost 5 and a half and he does the same thing. He will half say "ok" when I ask him to look for something, get up, walk two steps and say "I can't find it." I go to look for it and its right there...he wouldnt be able to miss it!!! It happens often

Re: Is it just my kid?
DS#2 Can't find anything, even if it's in plain sight. He is lazy in general, he will leave the room stand there and come back to say he couldn't find it.

Re: Is it just my kid?
I teach first grade. Without fail, 99% of the time, if they're missing something, they looked in their desk and I say, "Well let's check one more time," it's in their desk!

Re: Is it just my kid?
DD does that too. Most of the time. I think its just cause they know we will find it for them.
