Son's Communion
My son will be making his Communion on 5/12. We're not having a party because we don't have anyone to invite. Only a couple of family members will be here, otherwise they are all out of state and won't be coming.
Is there anything I can do as "mom" to make the day special for him? Am I "supposed" to be giving him a gift from mom and dad?
TIA!

Re: Son's Communion
My DS makes his First Communion this Saturday. We are not having a big party at all. Just my immediate family, which is his grandparents and 2 aunts and an uncle (my parents and sisters and brother). All of our other family is OOS and it's difficult to arrange schedules.
Anyhow, we are just having a small luncheon at our house afterwards. I got sandwiches/wraps and salads catered from a local Italian Market and a nice cake for him.
As far as something from us, we didn't really get him a gift. He got a lapel pin to wear symbolizing the Communion, a keepsake prayer book and a cross.
His birthday (and my DD's) is also this coming week, so my family will be giving them birthday gifts as well. I hate that the Communion is being overshadowed by birthdays, but what can you do?

Re: Son's Communion
We are throwing a small party of about 35 people at a local restaurant for DD who makes hers on Sunday. I also got her a small porcelain cross that has a First Communion saying on it as a keepsake.

Re: Son's Communion
We are not really having a party either, by choice. We are getting balloons, and decorations and he is getting a great gift nintendo ds 3d....then he will play wiffle ball with his cousins.
I ordered his favorite food, and cake. I am worried he will feel shorted but we will make it fun

Re: Son's Communion
My DD's Communion is Saturday. We are having a party at a venue, with about 50 people. I never thought about buying her a gift, I guess that the party is a gift.
We will let her have about $100 to put towards an I Touch from her gifts (cash).
