reflux moms- spit up the entire 7 ounce bottle!
My son is almost 4 months old. He's on prilosec compound. 1.6 ml's twice a day.
THe past 2 days he seems like his reflux is flaring up. Lots more wet burps, more irritated, spitting up more, etc. Almost like the meds aren't working. Yes i know the meds don't control the spit up, but for some reason for my son... it did.
Just now he spit up the entire 7 ounce bottle. I mean i've never seen anything like that before. Not projectile where it came flying at me, but there was definitely force behind it. It was like a river flowing. Soaked me, soaked him entirely, etc.
what's going on??? what could this mean? why now?
Oh and he sounds so congested at night now and first thing in the morning. Almost like he has a cold, but then he's fine during the day. Not congested or anything.

Maybe the dr needs to change the dosage. Isn't it based on weight?

Re: reflux moms- spit up the entire 7 ounce bottle!
It's horrible, isn't it? DS has had the worst reflux I've ever seen since he was born. We had to work around it. The most he ever ate in one feeding was 4.5 oz because if it was any more, it would come up (all or most) through his mouth & nose. Definitely speak with your Dr about it, Ped and/or Gastro. They switched my DS to prevacid early on and we learned how to deal with it- we put DS's mattress on an incline(pillows or towels under the mattress, should help with the congestion), sat him for 30-60 minutes after a feeding. We also always fed him smaller amounts, more often, and don't let his stomach get fully empty during the day. I would reccommend having a couple of receiving blankets or big burpees on hand for whenever it does happen. Also, I learned the more I reacted, the worse it was. When I stayed calm and spoke in a soothing way (while he was also in a good position), less or none came up (it def helped).
FYI DS has a severe case, even now at 5. The meds only do so much, the rest is how we deal with it. DS's has gotten a bit better as he's gotten bigger, also with how we handle it daily. Most kids do outgrow it over time, though.
Feel free to contact me anytime if you have any questions. I hope your DS gets some relief soon!! Best of luck!

It could have just been a bubble...
DS had reflux and did the same thing around that age. I was so worried about what it could be... we called the doc and they weren't too concerned, unless it happened again. And DS was completely unphased by it... it was freaky to watch, though.
Turned out it was just a one-time thing, so hopefully your son's incident was just random, too.
DS was on zantac and has been on Enfamil AR, which works for him, despite that one incident. The spit up never went away completely, though.
As for the congestion, every night, DS sleeps with cool air humidifier. If he's stuffy, we use Baby Comfy Nose aspirator, which works better than the bulb kind. And we use Little Noses saline drops a LOT.
Good luck!

It could be the dosage. I know dd is very sentative to dosage as she gains weight. Have you done a bit of rice cereal in the bottle? (I know some people don't like to do this so spare me your criticism if you are reading this) but it really helped my dd get her reflux under control.
I hope it gets better!
