Any ideas on what i can send a new mom ...
who is having a really hard time right now. baby was born a week ago she EBF and its taking a toll on her.
I want to send her a littke something to cheer her up and its her bday this weekend (we dont exchange gifts for bday so i dont want it to be really bday related; i dont want her to feel obligated to do something for me)
she lives in NJ so it has to be something that can be delivered!

From a girl friend I always love little things that can make me laugh....
Like a funny "Hallmark" card and a bottle of the wine "Mommy's Time Out" Does she have the Keurig? Maybe Coffee Pods.
Some cute saying about how tough it is being a new mommy, but this has helped me get through the nights or mornings... depending on what you get her.

That's so nice! Maybe a cd she would love or a dvd set of her fav show, a book. Something where she can relax while enjoying it

I would get her a gift certificate for a mani-pedi. Myabe call her husband and plan a day where he can watch the baby for an hour so she can get out. I think the biggest thing was not ever having time for myself and when I started doing something small for myself I felt so much better.

Could you have a couple of trays of food delivered to her? This will take the pressure of preparing dinner off her plate for the week. May be meatballs, lasgna, chicken broccoli ziti...things like that.

Re: Any ideas on what i can send a new mom ...
My sis sent my mom a nice assortment from Omaha Steaks when she had a operation - the iron/protien might be good. Plus you can take out as much/little as you need. QVC has another brand of steaks that are good.
I do like the Mommy's time out - I have seen wine glasses and coffee mugs that say it.
Also, you can get a gift certificate for shutterfly/snapfish.

FOOD! Anything eaten easily - precut fruit salad; sandwich platter, etc.
Does she have the mybrestfriend? I know that's not really a Mommy present, but it was a godsend.
ETA: Although I love the coffee/wine idea, it took me awhile to feel comfortable drinking either while EBF, and I didn't have any alcohol until DD was sleeping long stretches at night. Obviously everyone approaches this differently, but I am not sure I would have 'gotten' that kind of gift so early on!

thanks for Ideas everyone.
i was thinking no to wine coffee to cause she and her DH would very strict about this. While i love to get her something for day out she will never use it any time soon. I dont see her leaving that babies side for quite some time plus right now the baby is feeding more than once an hour so she cant leave her.
I guess i will go with food anyone have suggestions or should i just go with like and edible arrangment.
thanks agian

Food!
Even a GC for Applebees....they have curbside takeout so she can even go pick it up w/ the baby. Cooking is such a PITA at first.
ETA: I wouldn't do a Edible Arrangement. Something for dinner would be more appreciated.

Just another thought -- in the beginning I could not drink enough water, I literally had cups of water sprinkled throughout the house and DH actually held the cups up for me with straws while I was nursing DD.
I have no idea how this could translate into a gift, but drinking tons of water is SO important in the beginning, maybe a "mommy" water bottle or something, in addition to whatever else you are going to send her.

I agree with food. When DS was first born I had no time to cook, no time to run to the store to buy ingredients. I would have loved a few good dinners

Re: Any ideas on what i can send a new mom ...
Meals is a nice idea. Maybe a local place she likes. I loved the fruit from edible arrangements or chocolate covered strawberries. Maybe even call a local supermarket to make up some fruit or platters & the hubby can pick them up.
If she's BF, does she have comforts she needs....gel pads, shields, comfy pillow, nice cup to reminder her to drink water. Maybe even a pretty bracelet that she can switch arms each time she feeds as a reminder to which side she did last. Or a "mommy-baby" BF necklace that entertains the baby while she BF, but still looks pretty to wear.

I loved when people brought me food. It was nice not to think what to make for dinner.

Could you have a couple of trays of food delivered to her? This will take the pressure of preparing dinner off her plate for the week. May be meatballs, lasgna, chicken broccoli ziti...things like that.

I completely agree...not having to cook dinner was the best thing I could ask for. Maybe order a tray of food from a local italian rest and they can even freeze the leftovers.

I agree with other posters, something food related. This was the best gift to me. Ebf in the beginning is time consuming. The last thing I had time for was to cook.

This water bottle was a lifesaver when my DD was little and nursing round the clock. You can order it from amazon!
