Anyone NOT putting their DC in camp?
I have two kids that would go to different camps because of their ages (one is 6 and the other is 4). The third goes to school 6-weeks out of the summer so we are set with him. I am wondering if I should even bother with camps or just plan my own activities with them.
Anyone else do something similar, or do you put your kids in camp? Mine would only go 9-12pm for a month. We couldn't swing anything more financially.

Re: Anyone NOT putting their DC in camp?
As per my other post, I'm still up in the air what I'm doing. We will be going to Florida for a week in June and my sister and I are thinking of renting a lake house for a week in August with the kids. I wish I had an affordable option for like 4 weeks and then did day trips the rest of the time. That would be ideal. I can do that with my towns rec camp, but I don't really like the program. I'm waiting to hear the price of the camp I really want. 4 weeks at their full price would be $4610. I'm hoping for a BIG discount since I work there. Either way, I will have my 2 year old with me all summer.

Re: Anyone NOT putting their DC in camp?
Rob and I are both currently unemployed, so the kids will stay home with us this year.
TBH.. the only reason I have ever done camp is so they have a place to be while I'm working.
This year I might do a couple of SCOPE programs to keep them engaged. Plus we'll do our own stuff - hang out by the pool, go hiking, biking, drive out to Montauk, go to Fire Island, etc..

I'm not. I'm home and we do things almost every day. We are usually at the beach most days and I do sign him up for swimming lessons which are an hour a day for two weeks. I may sign him up for sports or a town activity, but that's about it.

I signed Lily up for a Princess Dance Camp that lasts a week, and that's about it. I never did camp as a kid, and I'm home all summer, so I never bother with it.

Re: Anyone NOT putting their DC in camp?
My kids never go to camp. I'm off all summer so we are constantly off on one adventure or another. It helps that a lot of my friends are teachers too, so we take our kids on "field trips" to zoos, parks, beaches and museums all summer.

Re: Anyone NOT putting their DC in camp?
Thanks so much for the responses everyone. I really appreciate it. I am also a teacher and want to try and plan some fun things for them to do.

Re: Anyone NOT putting their DC in camp?
Me. It's my first summer off in my life and I want to spend it with him.
We will be doing lots of camping trips, trips to shelter island, and a week at a camp where I will be working.
I looked at my calendar, and we have so many things going on, the summer is going to breeze by!

Re: Anyone NOT putting their DC in camp?
I do camp only 2 days a week 2.5 hour a day. For my kids it's enough to keep them in a school-like routine and they really enjoy it.
