plainedge school district???
We are narrowing down towns and SDs and this is the next one we are interested in
Does anyone have firsthand experience with them? What do you like or not like? Everyone keeps telling me it's really small. While I dont take that as a bad thing, how small is small? I appreciate any and all responses. FM me if you prefer. Thank you

Re: plainedge school district???
I graduated from Plainedge. It is a very nice district, good programs, good athletics. I graduated with 235, I guess that's small but not tiny. I actually thought it was a great size class to have, everyone knew everybody and there was always a really nice tight knit feel in the graduating class. I personally think smaller has it's benefits. It's always been a solid district.
My good friend is the orchestra teacher in the high school, for years, and she says it's still a great district. She loves teaching there and has no real complaints about the quality of the school, education, or teachers in the district.
Trust me, it is a nice district, smaller community feel, parents pretty involved..........you would be happy with your choice if you moved into the Plainedge SD.

We are in Plainedge SD but DS is only starting K in Sept so I don't have first hand experience yet. I've heard all good things though. I was very impressed w K orientation last week.

we live in N. Massapequa aka Plainedge. To me, it isnt "really small" but I graduated from Seaford with 175 and DH from Wantagh with 200
We love the area! We have only been here about 10 months but are very happy we decided to buy here!

Re: plainedge school district???
I graduated from Plainedge--I did K-12th grade there. I never thought of it as small district but I guess it actually was---it was nice to know basically all of my classmates.
One downfall of its size of the HS could be the lack of AP classes--I took basically all of the AP classes that were offered but there were a number of classes that other area high schools offered that Plainedge did not.
I probably could comment more about the high school as I formed opinions then but as for elementary and middle schools, I think both are considerably good.

Re: plainedge school district???
I lived in that district and while it's considered a good district, I found the lack of diversity in the whole neighborhood somewhat strange. That was really a driving factor in our move a year and a half ago.

Agreed. Very little diversity but I don't think you'll find it much different in any surrounding towns either. As a whole, I would not say LI is a very diverse area.

Re: plainedge school district???
Hofstra26-- was that the total in your class or the whole school??
Diversity, or lack thereof, doesn't sway me either way. Many areas are like that so it wouldn't sway my decision on a district. Thank you for all your responses. I want real life opinions, not test score results. I need to call the district, but does anyone know how big elementary classes tend to be?

That's what I thought by how she wrote it but that seems huge! I graduated with 176 and I wouldn't have ever called that small.

Re: plainedge school district???
For Kindergarten classes in one of the Plainedge elementary schools, they said they were expecting 4 classes of about 20 kids per class.

same! i graduated with 175 from Seaford. It isnt "small" but many districts on LI (especially Suffolk) have MUCH larger graduating classes.

Always seemed on the smaller side to me.......especially compared to some othe districts on LI. I live in the Three Village District now and it's huuuuuge. Way bigger than I am use to. 235 isn't tiny, but I always felt like Plainedge had a small feel to it.
