Really?!
I am a dance teacher, my recital is next Friday. I just had a mom call to tell me her kid isn't going to be in the show because they have a communion! Really lady?! You're just letting me know this now? Their class met yesterday, it would have been nice to have a little notice so I could make changes. Argh! I can't wait for this recital to be over. It's just been one thing after another the year.

I feel bad for the girl, but I feel more so for her classmates. They're only kids and now I'm going to have to throw a last minute adjustment their way to make up for the empty space.
I get that people may not realize how much work goes into training these kids and getting them ready for a show, but this mom is really showing no consideration for anyone. There's no way she just found out about the party. The least she could have done was given me and the kids a few weeks to prepare.

That's going to happen this time of year. My son's baseball team was missing 4 players last wknd.
don't know why she didn't tell you earlier though. Maybe its a relative and they just found out?

She must have known for a while because she hadn't purchased tickets yet and I've been leaving her messages and sending emails for the past two weeks with no reply.

I'm surprised she is having her daughter miss the recital. I could see a missing a class but a recital is pretty big.

I'm guessing the Communion is out of state?
I honestly have never heard of kids making Communions on a Friday night.
Anyway, she definitley should have given you notice. I feel bad that her DD is missing the recital. It's a big thing.

From a former dance teacher's position, this TOTALLY stinks for you and the other kids. That's so not fair and you are right, sometimes people don't realize how hard you work with them. They just shove it off as nothing when so much work goes into it. Sorry you're dealing with this.

Maybe she was torn on the decision of which event to go to, which was her reasoning for waiting till the last minute.
Or something else a lot bigger than a recital is going on in their lives.
It sux, but I think you need to be prepared for these kinds of things.
What if a kid got sick or something, kwim?
Some things can't be helped, and it's nothing you should take personally.

I feel your pain.
I coach a travel team and two of the girls told me the Monday before our Saturday tournament that they couldn't attend because of a Communion. It was THEIR COMMUNION!!!! And you couldn't have told me a wee bit sooner so I could have formulated a new lineup???
People just don't think sometimes. It's all about them.
