CPSE and appropriate environment
We had our CPSE annual meeting this morning. My 3 year old DS gets speech, a SEIT, and OT. He is in the LRE right now, Tutor Time; however, that may not be the appropriate environment for him since staff changes frequently, there in no structure, and there are 14-18 other children in the room at the same time. I live in the Babylon/Lindenhurst are and work in Bethpage. I also have an 18 month old. I need childcare for both boys, but I want something that will benefit my 3 year olds needs. I need recommendations please. Thank you!!!

Re: CPSE and appropriate environment
If you have your DS in Tutor Time now and work in Bethpage, would you consider a change in the day care facility? I don't know if your district would be willing to agree to a special education pre-school full time, but I can recommend an excellent "learning center" in Bethpage where you wouldn't have a worry in the world about your DS....Their teachers have degrees in special education, there is not a change of staff on a consistent basis, in fact much of the staff is family. As for structure & class size, I think if you went to visit you would be amazed such a place exists. But it does, because it was started based purely on the love of children. The owner loves all "her kids", and goes above and beyond what any other day care/school would, especially with special needs children. It is called SandCastle Day Care, but it really is more of a learning center at age 3. I think you would be very pleased with their programs for both of your children. The # is 516-935-4466. I would suggest making an appointment to visit or at least call and ask to speak to Sandy. I think you will be very pleased and impressed....and if she feels your child needs more services than they are getting now, she will definitely let you know and help you in any way she can. I hope this helps!

Re: CPSE and appropriate environment
Was a center based program (special ed preschool) suggested for him at your meeting? Based on the services he is getting, I would have thought they would have suggested it.
My DS was in daycare when he started a center based program and was bussed to and from daycare. The daycare was very flexible with allowing therapists to come there and with putting him on and taking him off the bus. I think as he got older, the biggest issue was the class size. He has had great teachers and the turnover wasn't too bad, but he needed more frequent redirection and attention and it is tough in a group of 15 kids with 2 teachers who are not trained or experienced with special needs children.
