Clomid + ovulation

Havn't been on here in a while...DH and I have not been super busy house hunting and putting in an accepted offer!

Not sure if anyone remembers or not but I posted a while ago that I have a very short LP...about 8 days. I went to my obgyn and she ran tons of testing. She did the test 1 week post ovulation and confirmed that I ovulated and also tested all of my hormones at the 3rd day of my cycle. All of the 3rd day tests came back great with all "normal" results.
As for the 7 day post ovulation test it came back that my progesterone was lower (8.2) they like to see it higher at this point in my cycle.

The doctor suggested Clomid to help lengthen the cycle. I guess they are hoping to make my o earlier in my cycle.
Has anyone done this and had success???

Thanks

Congrats on the house and post this on infertility. Clomid only has made me bleed longer and get more eggs but hasn't affected my o time so I can't answer your question

The good news is a short LP and low progesterone is one of the easiest issues to fix!

I have a short LP, too, around 9 days, and naturally, my progesterone was only 5.5 after I Oed. My obgyn suggested Clomid, but I wound up seeing an RE b/c we have MFI as well.

I tried 2 months on clomid with IUIs but the clomid made me so sick the 2nd month. However, it did lengthen my LP to ~12 or 13 days. I was always under the impression I'd have to go on progesterone supplements whenever I got pregnant b/c of low progesterone and a short LP.

However, for my 3rd IUI I used injectables. And I got pregnant! My progesterone was high naturally without any supplements. Basically, when it had to work, my body figured out what to do. So who knows.

I'd suggest using clomid ONLY if you're going to be monitored. Clomid tends to thin your lining and so you want that to be watched. Also, you want to be sure you don't use clomid more than 6 cycles at the most.

And finally, if you have low progesterone, as soon as you get a BFP, make sure you get your progesterone level tested right away to make sure you don't need to go on a supplement. Good luck!!!

Re: Clomid + ovulation

Yes I got pregnant on my first Clomid cycle. I had very irregular periods (short luteal phase also) and my OB kept saying Clomid would correct it, I was kind of hesitant but figured it was worth a shot.

I also have endometriosis which I had surgery to remove. But anyway, I ended up with a BFP on my first Clomid cycle and responded very well.

So for me it definitely worked, I have heard from others that it didn't work for them. I think it's different for each person, but either way I think it's def worth a shot...you never know! Good luck

Re: Clomid + ovulation

Thanks for the words of advice

right now we are not going to try anything as we are in the house buying process and are still trying but not being crazy with it if you know what I mean. I figured once we are settled in we'll really start trying. I'm just happy that they figured out why I most likely had a chemical in January (the low progesterone)

my doctor did tell me that they would have to monitor me very closely if and when we do decide for me to go on it something about sonograms and cysts?

I have my annual in August and will definitely be discussing this in much more detail with her then.

she also told me as soon as I get a BFP they will immediately run blood work and start progesterone supplements if need be

i dont understand why they would jump to clomid when progesterone suppositories would prob solve the problem. i would try that first before clomid, since progesterone wont effect your ovulation and clomid might mess it up, thin your lining, cause cysts, and overall mess with your natural cycle. i would just start them propholactically once you have confirmed ovulation (either with bloodwork or temping so that you are SURE that you ovulated) because they can't hurt anything, only help.

8.2 means she's ovulating but weakly. They probably want to try to get a stronger ovulation. The drs said the same with me.
