Let's talk LUXURY
DH and I are looking to reconnect and we would like to take somewhere in the carribbean. Since we haven't done anything for *us* in a while we are willing to dig deep into wallets for this one.
Any suggestions? Here is what we would like:
1. Swim up bar 2. Preferably no kids 3. Room service
Could be all inclusive or not.

Re: Let's talk LUXURY
From what you're looking for I would say look for an adults only all inclusive. They should have everything you're looking for without it being too much $$$. I haven't been to any adults only ones so I cant recommend one specifically.

Re: Let's talk LUXURY
I would totally go for Butler Service at an Adults only AI. I know the most about Sandals as we're going on our second Sandals trip in less than 2 weeks!
We stayed at Sandals La Toc on St. Lucia. it was HEAVEN. We loved this resort because there is a separate butler only section up on the bluff with spectacular views and a much more elegant, laid back atmosphere (vs. the more party atmosphere of the main pool area). Butler service is amazing. it's really the ultimate in pampering. I can't say enough about it. La Toc has this incredible Millionaire's Suite which I would go to in a SECOND if I were looking to spend the money.
There are other amazing resorts on St. Lucia like Jade Mountain with no 4th wall and infinity pools. They SOUND so amazing, but they're also the kinds of places where you need to sleep under a mosquito net and hide your stuff from birds, so we felt the sunset bluff was a happy medium in terms of incredible views, but all of the comforts of home.

Anguilla! Cap Juluca or Cuisinart resorts. Both adult, both luxury. In St. Lucia, Jade Mountain or Ladera.

In St' Lucia also look at the Jalousie Planation Resort. Stayed there 10 years ago and it was amazing and it seems to have gotten so much better and more luxurious.

JUst an FYI...The above resorts are both wonderful but they are not adults only. The Four Seasons on Nevis is also very luxurious!

If she is talking about beaches, I can't argue with that! The island it self is scrubby and flat but the beaches, ahhhh! The people are also amazing! Kind, friendly, helpful and just cool to be around. The food on the island is also as good as some of the best restaurants in NYC, easily. We've been there three times in the last two years. We love it there!

It's true the island itself is just eh. Just plain and flat. But the beaches were amazing ! Nothing is comparing to the beach on Anguilla. Blue like I have. Ever seen, the sand was a super white and soft..... I miss it!! The food was soooo good too! We had some great meals there.

Re: Let's talk LUXURY
We did 1 week at Cap Juluca in Anguilla and 1 week in St Barths at Hotel St Barth Isle de France for our honeymoon....the best trip ever...
If you want Luxury, St Barth's is the place...what an amazing island..but it is very $$$$$
We loved Anguilla's beaches, the best I have seen, Cap Juluca is a beautiful, quite hotel but not over the top luxury...very plain furnishings but the bath was pure luxury with Bulgari bath accessories...we visited Cusinart for dinner and I was not impressed...it was run down and needed renovations which I think they completed now...so it is a place to consider but it does have more children than Cap Juluca..
If $$$ is no object I would def look into St Barths!!! no other island compares to it...
Have fun!

Re: Let's talk LUXURY
Excellence Punta Cana or Couples Swept Away in Jamaica. Though if you're looking for luxury or opulence, I'd go for Excellence. It was amazing and beautiful. Couples was more laid back and tropical. The food was better at Excellence also.

I've heard great things about both of these resorts. When we were booking our honeymoon, our TA at the time was trying o convince us to go to Couples Swept away. We chose Sandals La Toc instead and we loved it, but those resorts both also looked AWESOME.

Re: Let's talk LUXURY
Excellence all inclusive in Playa mujeres was luxurious - beautiful accomodations and spa - ppols, beach etc. - but the food wasn't 'luxury' .........
I don't think AI food is ever really 'luxury' .......
The Grand Hyatt in Kuai was without question the most amazing place I have ever been in my life - hotel and food -wise.
The beach was terrible.
The Beach @ the Four Seasons in Maui was AMAZING ..........but for a Four Seasons, I was not impressed. - Kuai's Hyatt was 10x better.

Re: Let's talk LUXURY
I thought some of the food at Sandals La Toc was incredible. La Toc resraurant (french) was one of the best meals of my life. Piton was excellent local food. The Italian place and Teppan Dining were also pretty good. Didn't blow me away, but good.

Re: Let's talk LUXURY
If I wanted total luxury I would do a private island resort - Jumby Bay in Antigua or Peter Island Resort in BVI. We looked at them for our honeymoon but they are and we had just bought our house.

Re: Let's talk LUXURY
The food at most AIs isn't great.
I stayed at Sandals La Toc in St. Lucia for our HM. Not impressed. Food was "eh". I am a foodie though so compared to NYC dining and NYC restaurants, the food wasn't anything to write home about, the pizza was awful, and we never got a chance to eat at the French restaurant because all the spots were full and the next reservation open was the night after we would be leaving. I will not go back there, even If it was free.

Hands down, Royal Hideaway in Mexico
DH & I went for our Honeymoon...AMAZING!!! No kids, only like 200 rooms in the entire resort, you get your own Concierge service that will do anything for you, food was 5 star!!
Paradise!!!

Re: Let's talk LUXURY
My DH teases me that I am a hotel snob! But truly that is probably the only thing I am so particular about.
I would recommend any of the following:
- Rosewood Resorts - include Little Dix Bay, Jumby Bay, Caneel Bay and Tucker's Point are all Caribbean. We actually got married at the Rosewood Mayakoba and then honeymooned at Las Ventanas, both AMAZING, but Mexico.
- Loved The Palms in Turks & Caicos
- One and Only in the Bahamas and Mexico are both amazing
- Can't go wrong with a Four Seasons, we loved Nevis!
AMEX Platinum is a great resource with their Fine Hotels and Resorts program and they offer great perks if you bok with them and then use your card, which we typically do.
I also refer every year to Conde Nast Traveler's Gold List and Travel & Leisures Best Resorts Issue. They are ranked by location.
