What's a popular book you did NOT like?
I had to read The Great Gatsby in of all things, a video journalism class in HS. I really didn't like it. I didn't like the characters, I just didn't like it at all. Maybe I've feel differently about it now, but I don't feel like re-reading it.
I'm also trying to get through 100 years of solitude. Now that I've started I really want to finish, and though I should like it since I have read fantasy, like fairy tales, etc, magical realism is probably not my thing.

Every high schooler has to read Romeo and Juliet and they always seem to fall in love with it and find it romantic. I hated it! I hated the characters and couldn't stand them.
Another one that I can think of is The Time Traveler's Wife. This stands out because I saw the movie (I went to the premiere) before reading the book and everyone raved about the book and how it was so moving and fantastic. I was so excited to read it and I absolutely hated it and barely got through it - I thought it was so poorly written and thought out.

I hated Twilight.
I cannot stand anything by Charles Dickens.
I try not to read books that have a lot of hype surrounding them. I generally find that they are not well written... I rarely read any current best sellers.

Ditto. I was seriously turned off by the story line. I liked SOmething Blue MUCH better.
I really didn't like The Road by Cormac McCarthy or Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. People kept egging me on to read both and I really didn't enjoy either of them. I felt obligated to like Catcher in the Rye since it's a classic, and The Road I just wanted them to shut up and die already.  I know, I'm a bad person.

This was a VERY difficult book for me to get through. I also hated The Devil Wears Prada. I actually liked the movie more than the book.
As far as classic lit, I hated Chaucer. I was an English Lit major and all my peers / prof raved about him and I couldnt stand it.

From HS, it's Wuthering Heights, hands down.
As for things I've recently read, I'm gonna go with A Discovery of Witches. From like ch 6-30, NOTHING happened.

I HATED Farenheit 451 and Lord of the Flies....I refuse to teach them.
I also couldn't stand Twilight, since NEVER have I wanted to kick someone in face, fictional or otherwise, as much as I did while reading the book and a half I read of Twilight.

I could see that about Lord of the Rings- it definitely dragged in some parts. And were the 4 page long songs necessary? 
And same here with On the Road... I begrudgingly finished it.

I can't even bring myself to start the Lord of the Rings books (because I hated The Hobbit so much)... but I adore the movies.
Same with Game of Thrones - love the series, I'm told I'll love the books... but can't bring myself to start them... I'm afraid I'll hate it.
Not a fan of 50 Shades series and The Time Travelers Wife nearly killed me to finish.

am i the only one who couldn't even attempt to read Hairy Potter. never seen the movies either...
and Lord of the Rings.
if i can't get into the 1st few pages of a book i usually move onto the next one...
i would have to also say all HS mandatory readings i didnt like...

The Lovely Bones. I seriously was so angry when I finished that book that I started reading a book I've already read just to calm myself down
I also didn't think The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was so amazing.
