What a difference a school year makes
DS just finished a year at a developmental preschool in a co-teaching class with Speech and OT services.
This time last year I was having such a difficult time coming to terms with the fact that they were recommending these services for him. I cried almost every day, and had trouble sleeping for weeks. Even though I work in a school, I finally accepted it, and he has made such progress. Granted, he still has tremendous difficulty attending to task and sitting still for any length of time, but he scored out of speech. He'll get OT over the summer, and next year too. We are going to a Developmental Ped over the summer. We'll see what happens there.....
Just wanted to share. Off to Pre-K next year at the same school. Now, I cant imagine him being in school without all of these support services!!! I dont want to let them go.

Re: What a difference a school year makes
That is awesome. This is how I felt as well. My DS started school at 27 months old and last week he graduated from the pre-k room there. He will be attending the 6 week summer program, but, saying goodbye this week is going to be HARD.
The EI in home services are fantastic. I do feel once he started school, things clicked quicker and he came so far!
My DD starts school in Sept. Saying goodbye to EI is going to be extremely hard! I'm curious to see how she's going to adjust in school and how far she'll come.

Re: What a difference a school year makes
KAAM-
I am so happy to hear that! My DS is transitioning out of EI end of summer and will begin a develop pre-school program in Sept. I have had and still do, at times, have those exact feelings and emotions you have had. I am scrared, yet excited, and hopeful that he will progress much quicker once in the program. I have heard from many, many people how their children have just "taken off" and done so well in a developmental program- hoping same goes for my DS. Best of luck and continued progress!

Re: What a difference a school year makes
DS will be doing his pre-K year in a developmental school in September and your words have given me a sense of relief. I am optimistic for the upcoming school year. I hope he will be OK in a new school, new teachers, no SEIT, no home services, and lots of changes.
