An overwhelming experience...
We signed all of the IVF consent papers today. Now that is overwhelming....
Numerous clauses about how the treatment, while although very small risks, can harm me... stroke, cancer, etc.
Not a guarantee of a normal pregnancy... blah, blah, blah.
Oh, yeah, and what do we want to do w/ embryos in case of his death?, my death?, divorce?, both of our deaths?
I had to stop three times because I broked down and cried. Unlike most people I always read EVERY word of every document I sign... perhaps this time I shouldn't have...
As if this whole thing isn't stressful enough, lawyers have to concoct a TEN page legal document!
Ah, to be a woman who just... oops, got pregnant
Sorry, vent over.

Re: An overwhelming experience...
T, we are living the same life today.
I browsed through the papers earlier this month, but I actually sat down and read them all today.
I cried too. And had a little panic attack.
Did your DH read them? Mine hasn't yet, even though I keep asking him to.
The things we go through!!

Re: An overwhelming experience...
I read them out loud so he would here it.
The hardest questions were:
1. What to do with the embryos if the male partner dies?
2. What to do with the embryos if the female partner dies?
3. What to do with the embyos if both partners die?
Not because we didn't agree with on our answers just because I don't want to think about it. It's bad enough that anyone has to jump through the hoops we all do to have a baby but then to hav to read all of the doom and gloom outlined in those pages?
My mom died at 38 (two years older than I am right now) so I know that those scenarios, while rare, still do happen. My family hasn't had the best of luck when playing the odds. I'm hoping I'll change all of that
I guess not everyone has to go through this because most people out there wouldn't be able to handle it

Re: An overwhelming experience...
I'll be signing them this week as well. I guess I just try to keep the future positive that none of us are going to die...and that I won't need the other embryos b/c the first IVF is going to work (Yeah right)
Just try to look down the road a bit, when you feel that first flutter in your belly! Then you will know it was all worth it!

Re: An overwhelming experience...
It's a tough thing, but you got through it and you should look forward to a successful IVF - Think Positive! I know it's tough, but maybe it'll be the extra edge you need to get a BFP.

Re: An overwhelming experience...
Theresa...I know, it was very overwhelming signing all those papers. All you want to do is make a baby and not worry about who will get the embryos in case of someone is not around.

Theresa, I know how you feel. We just signed our papers on Thursdays.
Hopefully, this will be the only time that you will fill out this paperwork!
