successful drug free birth at lij with an ob?
Has anyone had any luck with this ? If not lij specifically then any other li hospital? i'm months away from birth, but really want to avoid medication and unnecessary intervention I've been reading natural childbirth books and they all make it as if its impossibly to do that in a hospital .
considering switching to a midwife just not sure of the process .

from the info i have gotten recently from midwives and l&d nurses from LIJ, it is not easy to avoid interventions there. i dont believe any midwives have privileges there either. that doesn't mean you can't have an unmedicated birth if you are determined to. if thats what you want and you have no complications, it shouldn't matter where you deliver. good luck!

Has anyone had one at Stony Brook with an OB? I'm thinking of asking my Bradley teacher when I start going in 2 weeks. My sister just had such a bad experience with the Stony Brook midwives I don't know if I could go there.

I don't live in NY anymore, but had a successful meds free birth at a hospital and with an OB. I know that a LOT of it was totally luck. Part of it was also going into the entire thing with the idea that I didn't want any pain meds or epidural. I took the birthing class my hospital offered and went over our hopes with my husband over the course of 6 weeks, then with my OBs, and when we got to the hospital, the first thing we told the nurse at check-in was NOT to offer me any pain meds -- that if I asked, to discourage me, but not to withhold them if I begged and it seemed like I needed them. It never came up again.
At the end, I was begging for them to help me and saying I couldn't do it, but by then I was pushing and she eventually did come out.

If you need midwife recommendations in your area, call my doula, Vicky Moody (516) 351-6425. She knows every midwife in the area. She helped me when I decided to switch from my OB.. Good Luck!!

I recently had an unmedicated birth with Melanie Summersille, a midwife who delivers at Winthrop. I was very happy with her-- she was very supportive in all ways. FM me if you want any more info. GL!
