FYI re: ordering food for a backyard party!
Everyone always asks how much food to order, so here's my FYI ---- I had WAY too much food at DD's 1st birthday party - like 4x the amount I needed.
We had 50 people and we had the following food items:
2 Costco Veggie Platters (I could have just put out carrots, hardly anything was eaten)
Some bowls of chips (these were eaten)
6 feet of Heroes (veggie, chicken, and italian)
Full Trays of:
- Chicken Fingers - Mozz Sticks - Baked Ziti - Chicken with Spinach and Cheese - Poached Salmon - Meatballs - Sausage & Peppers - Sauteed Veggies - Salad
For dessert we had:
- 30 regular cupcakes - 15 mini cupcakes - 75 cake pops - 75 cookie favors - 3/4 sheet cake
What I should have gotten was:
- Carrots/Chips - Salad - 6 feet of Heroes - 1/2 tray of sauteed veggies - 1/2 tray ziti
- 15 mini cupcakes (I wanted to use cupcake toppers that I made) - SMALL cake - 75 cake pops - 30 cookie favors (people didn't taken them!!!)
Again, just an FYI so that some of you can save some money! The food and desserts cost me a FORTUNE and DH wound up bringing the leftovers to work on Monday.

FYI re: ordering food for a backyard party!
Sing it.....there is a difference between having enough or more then enough food and being almost wasteful. It's a very fine line and on here you can get carried away easily looking at what others do. My advice, if I may, is to know your guests. If they are big snackers do more snacks, if they dig dessert do a big dessert table, if they are more salads and stuff do more of that. You don't need to have a huge spread of 3-5 main dishes if your people eat hotdogs and hamburgs.

WOW thats a ton of food. I just had DS baptism and had a 40 people
I had
Chips and dips (salsa and a creamy dip)
Deli tray rolls bread Garden salad Potato Mac cole slaw
Tray of ziti sausage& peppers hawaiian chicken
Cake
I still had a bunch left over. People will eat what is there so if there is only a few choices they will be ok with it.

I've been buying tupperware so I can send people home with leftovers. I hate wasting food!

I always have way too much too...it's just the fear of running out of something that makes me overbuy/cook.

I've always asked the deli/restaurant or caterer what they recommend and for the most part, it's been spot on!
