X-Post: Great Neck OB/GYN & Jessica Jacobs
Not sure how to X-post so this is a double post. Hope thats ok!
Hoping you all could help. I have to switch doctors this pregnancy, hoping to do it before 20 weeks, due to the fact that I have to deliver at a NS/LIJ hospital. I was given two recommendations Great Neck OB/GYN in particular Dr. Kaufmann, and Dr. Jessica Jacobs. I currently see a sole practitioner and love it, but am willing to switch to a practice if it's the right fit. Does anyone have experience with either of these doctors/practices?
With Great Neck I'm assuming I'll have to see all the doctors do you feel like you were comfortable with all of them by the end?
I really want a practice that has great front office staff, does most testing/lab work in office. I don't want to go to a lab for the glucose test or for bloodwork. I also don't want to wait 30+ minutes to see the doctor. I would like to have all/majority of my sonograms (I'd be fine with going to another center for the level 2). I would appreciate any and all recommendations or opinions you have on these doctors or any others. Thank you so so much!

I just delivered my DD with Dr. Jacob. Like you, I had to switch doctors because I had to deliver at a North Shore hospital, only I switched at 30 weeks.
She was really good. Appointments were quick, although there was the occasional long wait. Any bloodwork was drawn there and I did see other ladies drinking the glucose drink in the waiting room. The staff is really nice as well.
As far as sonos, I was high risk, so I saw North Shore Maternal Fetal Medicine for those, though she did do quickies to make sure the baby was head down.
She is a solo practitioner, so she will deliver you. When I called in the middle of the night when I had gone into labor, she returned my call in less than 5 minutes. She came to check on me in triage, and was back in 10 minutes when they called her to say I was almost ready to push. She was very encouraging during delivery, and I really felt like I was in great hands with her.
Good luck!

I have been going to Dr. Jacob for 15 years now. She delivered both of my children. I could spend an hour telling you why she is the most amazing doctor. I have recommended at least a dozen of my friends, acquaintances to her and every person has loved her and been amazed by her. She's absolutely amazing and I would recommend her hands down. You can't go wrong with her. She is the best.

Re: X-Post: Great Neck OB/GYN & Jessica Jacobs
I've been going to Great Neck OBGYN for over years. I see Dr. Rifkin there but have seen all the doctors over the years. They delivered all 3 of my LOs. The entire staff is friendly and always helpful. I've never waited longer than 15 minutes to be seen. Dr. Kaufmann is very nice and so is Dr. Santoyo.
All tests are done in the office, sonos, bloodwork, I've never gone to a lab for this stuff. They have a radiologist in house so sonos are read by her, the tech and finally the OB. The even do bone density tests right there and some cosmetic procedures I believe.
Call are returned quickly and I've never felt like I was bothering them with my questions. My mom and sister both go there and they are highly respected in the medical field. My mom works in a doctors office and vouched for this.
I now live out east and still make the drive in to see him.
I adore them!

Re: X-Post: Great Neck OB/GYN & Jessica Jacobs
I go to Great Neck OBGYN. I originally started out going to see Dr. Sadaty but during my pregnancy Dr. Kaufman's schedule fit mine better so I saw him for most appointments. He even did my C-Section. I like all of the doctors in the practice. I have never had a long wait.
A good friend of mine sees Dr Jacobs and actually recommended her to me when I was looking for a new doc (before going to GN OBGYN). SHe loves her. I was a little concerned with the fact that she was a sole practitioner. And I was also told the wait times are very long. But my friend swears by her.

Re: X-Post: Great Neck OB/GYN & Jessica Jacobs
i saw dr jacobs a few times, and maybe it was just coincidence but i had to wait an hour each time. this was before i was pregnant, and i work full time so this was very inconvenient for me. i spoke with a friend who had also been a patient of dr jacobs and had been unhappy with her. BUT, i have heard other women rave about her, so maybe we just had very random bad experiences.
my friend had switched to prohealth in new hyde park, and she raved so i switched to them as well and was VERY VERY happy.
they have the best office staff i've ever dealt with; always sweet, happy to see me, easy to make appointments with. i found that w every other OBGYN the office staff were always short w me and unfriendly, so this was a breath of fresh air. my friend primarily saw Dr Lee and LOVED her (she gave me a post-op check up in the hospital after my c and me and DH loved her, too). i primarily saw Dr Davidson, and i really loved him, felt so comfortable w and confident in him. my birth didn't go to plan and some of my family blamed him, but that stuff happens - i had a huge baby who couldn't drop; i am still very very happy with Dr Davidson and the entire practice.
and at this practice they also prefer you to see all the dr's but they weren't pushy w it. i didn't see Dr Lee until after i gave birth (i just never made the appointment w her) but yes, i was comfortable enough w all the other Drs, so that i would've been fine w any of them delivering my baby. they were all wonderful.
they did glucose in-house, i didn't have to go anywhere for blood work, i believe they do all sonos but level 2 in house (i had a single umbilical artery, so they sent me every month to the hospital for the better sono to get an extra good look at him but that's a rare case). sorry to go on and on but i am really glad i found this practice, so i am very happy to share the info.
good luck and if you need additional info let me know.

X-Post: Great Neck OB/GYN & Jessica Jacobs
i went to dr jacobs before i was pregnant. she was really nice and i hear she takes great care of her pregnant patients. for me though i sort of felt like an afterthought. every time i was there i waited over an hour, sometimes even two hours. she would give me about 5 minutes and she didn't explain things all that well. i have PCOS and she never dx me but told me i "might" have it. she never looked at my temping charts, she just gave me clomid, told me when to have sex, and never gave me any more info. so i went to an RE and switched OBs after that. again, she was very nice and the waiting room was always packed with pregnant ladies. i believe i had such long wait times because she is constantly out delivering babies (which is a good thing). i have heard she delivers most of her patients which is also a plus, esp for a private practice doctor. good luck with whomever you choose!

Re: X-Post: Great Neck OB/GYN & Jessica Jacobs
Dr. Kauffman was recommended to me by my sister. He delivered my niece and nephew via c section and she loved him. I on the other hand did not care for him. I actually wanted to switch in the middle of my pregnancy bc i just felt like he wasnt as concerned with my pregnancy as he should have been. I ended up just making my appointments with Dr. Rifkin there who I did like until it came time to deliver my baby. I was scheduled for an induction and purposely had it scheduled so Rifkin would be the doctor on duty. They began my induction at 730 at night with cervadil (which normally stays in for 12 hrs and then you get the pitocin) I was contracting and progressing nicely so they removed the cervadil after 5hrs. Broke my water and then started pitocin. At 9 am (less than 12 hrs after I began the process he suggested I have a csection bc he thought the baby may be too big. I asked to keep trying and by 1030 i was 6 cm. He convinced me to have a section. I just feel that I hadnt labored enough and could have given labor more time. But when you are in the hospital bed and your doctor tells you his reccommendation, the last thing I wasnted to do was not follow his advice. This was my first child and I had no idea what to expect. Later I realized that there was a hurricane coming and I truly feel that he rushed me into a c section bc he wanted to get out before the storm. BTW DD weighed in at 8.13, not nearly too big to deliver naturally. Everyone will have their own experiences and their own opinions. Im just giving you my experience. I know lots of women love Dr. Rifkin. I liked him to before the labor. I have since switched practices.

X-Post: Great Neck OB/GYN & Jessica Jacobs
I ended switching FROM Dr. Jacobs!
She's actually really nice and great to work with, however, be warned that there is always a wait time at her office and sometimes it can reach an hour or so. She does do early morning hours though, in which you are in and out. She also does everything there and is a solo practitioner. My big issue with her though was that she does not really like doing c-sections. I'm very small and my first choice was natural childbirth, however, because of my size I was very aware of the fact that I may end up having to have a c-section. When I spoke to her about it, she was refusing to even entertain the thought and then proceeded to put me on an incredibly strict diet and told me that I was only to gain a maximum of 18 pounds during my entire pregnancy. I was turned off by the treatment and the lack of reassurance and ended up switching doctors before the end of my first trimester. It was lucky I did, because I could not give birth naturally and my doctor recognized that fact immediately and did not try to guilt me about not giving birth naturally. I tried, but it wasn't going to work. My friend, who had been going to Dr. Jacobs for years had said that she would've insisted I continue naturally.
I would meet with both doctors and see which one you really connect with. It's important you feel comfortable with your doctor because they will be there with you and are there to also help and offer reassurances.

I use/d Great Neck. Dr. Kaufmann was my doctor but Dr. Rifkin delivered my son and I saw all the doctors though out my pregnancy. I really liked them all with Kaufmann, Rifkin and Santoyo being my favorites. Rifkin was great during my delivery. They are very highly came very highly recommended and I was very happy with them.

DS was big (8.7) and all Kaufmann and Santoyo were both saying "no worries you can do this natural we do bigger babies all the time". I progressed fairly quickly at the hospital but a c section was not pushed on me in anyway shape or form.

Dr. Rifkin and Sadaty told me this too. Mostly Rifkin though bc a majority of my appts were with him. But the day of, he changed his tune and neither I nor DD were in any type of distress.
