Do we have therpaists come to the house or school?

DS will be starting pre school in the fall at a regular local pre school and will have a SEIT in the classroom for the 3 days he will be attending. He has also been approved for OT and Speech which can be done at home, possible at the school (before his class starts at 12:45 or at an agency location. The sessions are 30 minutes long. I will be dropping and picking him up from pre school 3x a week and will also be toting with me, a newborn (due in July). Although it might be convenient to have OT and speech at home .. it might get distracting ... though I could also see how he is doing and more freely speak with the therapists.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did it work?

We did both. Do whatever is most convenient for you. When they came to my house, I just stayed out of the room they were working in, and the therapists were great with keeping him on task.

Do whatever works for you BUT.. stay on top if the therapies are not done at home. Some therapists are not as thorough when parents are not watching. Make sure you communicate with them on a weekly basis. Ask questions about the specific things they do.

I had 1 speech in school and one at home. It really depends on the child. My DS was having trouble using his words with his friends. She worked on taking turns, playing games, asking nicely, etc... If she's going to the school I would want a "push in" rather than pulling them out of the classroom.

If your therapist is working on articulation I would say at home or in the office would be best.

Hello! As a speech therapist I would reccomend starting ur child off with therapy at home. It is the best way to produce language when the child is in a familiar environment with their own toys. Then as they progress you can consider outside therapy.

Your home therapist may still want to observe the child at school to see how they interact with others...at the preschool levelin school push in is the way to go then but be prepared as they get older and their goals more complex pull out is usually necessary
