UPDATE kids who are very tough on their jeans...Toughskins???
I posted about this last year. I thought I was a big hotshot and I bought my son several pairs of premium denim jeans, mostly at Bloomingdale's. Every single pair ripped at the knees. It's like someone was watching me on my little shopping sprees & decided to put a hex on my purchases. I replaced them with OshKosh jeans because they always fit him well. Then the same thing happened with the OshKosh jeans. It happened with Levis, every single brand I can think of.
My mom told me to go to Sears and buy Toughskins. Are they still reinforced at the knees? Do they look horrible? I looked at them online and some of them have visible elastic wasitbands. I think that will look babyish. How are Toughskins? Why do I keep picturing the kids who got picked on for wearing them? Are those my best choice? I am planning to buy some track pants because he hasn't ripped those but he will need some jeans. Is there any other brand you can think of that may not rip at the knees. I was thinking that maybe when we switched to shorts this summer DS would realize that it hurts to skin your knees. But I am not convinced that he would go any easier on jeans.
My other option is to go back to OshKosh because they seem to fit him well & I can get them on sale & just keep replacing them.
UPDATE: Toughskins have a lot of choices, slim waist, regular waist, relaxed fit and slim fit which isn't the same as slim waist and they come with and without the knee reinforcement, your choice. I will say that they are not stiff like the old fashioned ones and on the outside they look like any other jeans. None of them turned out out be a wonderful fit for my son but the slim waist ones were best. We may be keeping one pair. I like that they have a dark black b/c OshKosh doesn't. I am not sure what I will do for the rest of his jeans but I think that if OshKosh continues to be a great fit for him I will buy some and get the inside patches from Amazon. Sears also had some nice looking Levi's but DS's Levi's ripped so quickly last year. Anyway, I would suggest Toughskins for a kid who has a different build & has this issue with the knees ripping. Oh, and Sears has a lot of T-shirts with characters on them, for those who like them. We got a Spiderman one that came with a toy.

I bought jean patches & ironed them on the inside of his pants by the knee area. I think 1 or 2 still ended up ripping but the rest were ok.

I don't know anything about that brand, BUT, Sears Kidadvantage will replace any pair of worn jeans within a certain time frame. I can't remember the time frame. I don't think it works on Levis, but is good on everything else.

Where did you find them? I went to Michael's thinking they would have them but they did not have what I was picturing.

Thanks. I will probably order some but continue to look for some more options. There is one pair of jeans on The Gap website that has pockets that go all the way down & cover the knee. I would not want that style for all of my son's jeans but I live near a Gap & may go look at them. My husband says that we should grab jeans as soon as OshKosh has a sale. OshKosh seem to be good for kids with shorter legs & my son has my husband's exact build (and I often joke that our dachshund has the same build, too :))

Re: kids who are very tough on their jeans...Toughskins???
I don't really have any suggestions as pants are practically disposable with my boys. Jeans have holes in the knees within a few wears and track pants are usually worse. I find thick sweatpants to be the only things that hold up at all.
I usually buy nicer clothes for my kids but now when it comes to pants I go cheap because I know they won't last long!

Re: UPDATE kids who are very tough on their jeans...Toughskins???
The children's place jeans do rip at the knee easily, but the cargo pants from there last really well.
I've never had a problem with Gap jeans. I think we have a 1 or 2 pairs from Old Navy that were fine too. We have a pair of RL that held up well.
