salary differential

I am entering the DOE this Sept and I want to be eligible for the second differential, the highest one.

I have my BA, an MA, 12 CLEP credits, 6 excelsior credits, and 14 excess undergrad credits.

On the DOE Web site, it says excess undergrad credits need to be earned AFTER your date of undergrad graduation, so I was going to get 12 more CLEP credits by Sept 1. However, when I called the DOE HR connect, they said my 14 undergrad credits will count. I said I wanted to make sure b/c the Web site said they need to be in addition to your BA. I read on this board previously that they do count the 14 excess credits even though they're not supposed to. I'm afraid to take the risk b/c if I apply in Sept and they say no I will lose $3500 and have to apply for a mid-year salary differential once I take more CLEP tests.

Should I just take two more CLEP tests at six credits each to be safe or should I go with the HR connect rep and just send in all my paperwork and hope they grant my differential with the 14 excess undergrad credits?

Are the excess credits in your area of specialization? If so, then just submit what you have. If not, pay the $176 and take CLEP

I graduated college with 142 credits but you only needed 128, so I don't know what the DOE would see as the excess credits. If they look at the 16 AP credits that were transferred, they would see classes in history, statistics and english. I have a common branch appointment so I guess all the core classes are considered in my area of specialization?

I was told the salary portal doesn't open until Sept 4. We will apply for it then and then get retro pay for the days we were paid incorrectly.
