My baby is a big girl!!!
I went to have my growth sono on Wednesday, at 34w4d. Babylicious weighed 5lbs6oz
I went for my 2 week visit with OB. He said uterus is measuring 36w (at 33w5d) and Miss Sophia is expected to be a 8 or 9 pound baby.
He also said we will be discussing some safer methods of getting her into the world. I have a good feeling that my 5 foot 1 frame isn't going to be able to get this kid out and I am headed for a c-section. I'm totally fine with it, I just want her out safely.
Anyone else having a huge babe?

My baby is a big girl!!!
I wouldn't worry about size because they can be a pound off which is a big difference. DS was always measuring ahead and now he's a little peanut!!!!

Re: My baby is a big girl!!!
Don't give it too much weight (pun intended ). They estimated DD at 7 1/2 lbs when I was admitted to the hospital. She was born 8lb 6oz. Do you have another growth sono scheduled?

Re: My baby is a big girl!!!
Sonos can def be off by a lb or so. I wouldwas definitely speak to your dr about alternate delivery methods if you are concerned but i know tons of people who were told their babies were huge and they wound up being 7lbers.
In my case the sono was off in the WRONG way! They thought Ryan was going to be about 9lbs and he was over 10 1/2!
Were you a big baby at birth? That can give you a general idea of what to expect. I was 9 1/2 lbs so I kind of assumed i would have a big baby... Just not that big!

My baby is a big girl!!!
at my 36 week growth sono baby was measuring 6 pds 9 oz so the doc said he was a little on the big side but nothing to be concerned about the sono tech said it kind of takes after what the mom was at birth and i was 8 pds 7 oz so hoping for a nice 8 to 8 1/2 pounder, they can be off though

Re: My baby is a big girl!!!
I agree with the PP's...try to not to worry about this too much! At 34 weeks they estimated DD at almost 5 lbs. Then at 36 weeks they guestimated she was already at 7 lbs. THEN...right before I delivered at 39 weeks, they told me that she was between 8-9 lbs. When she was born she was actually 7 lbs 3 oz!
They can totally be off. No worries!

Re: My baby is a big girl!!!
A friend of mine just had a baby. The drs told her he was measuring around 8lbs. She had a C-section because her body was not starting the birth process at all and the dr didn't want to induce her because she really wasn't remotely dilated or anything. The first thing the doctor said when he pulled the baby out was "C-section was a good idea!" -- he wound up weighing 9lbs12oz!

Re: My baby is a big girl!!!
i was told at my 36 week appt (the last time i had a sono) that my DS's head was measuring 2 weeks ahead and that he was already 7.5 lbs, so to expect a 9lb baby at least.... i am nervous to say the least! everyone told me not to believe the sono though.. we will see..

My baby is a big girl!!!
i def wouldn't let them bully you into a c-section. most of my friends who had a growth sono force them into an induction or c-section cause the baby was "too big" ended up with 7lb babies. only one (out of like 7 or 8) actually turned out to be accurate - she had a c-section and a 10lb 12oz baby but she also had every sign of GD although she passed her 1hr glucose. we all feel she had it, the baby even had to go to the NICU after birth for sugar issues so although she was never DX, we are pretty sure the high birth weight was due to this.
all im saying is that women for thousands of years have been birthing babies, long before c-sections were standard or even offered. a woman's body is made to be able to deliver the baby that it grows. if you go into it believing you can't push the baby out, you probably wont and you will likely end up with a c-section. if you really don't care thats one thing, but a cs is MAJOR surgery so if you can avoid it, have a vaginal delivery!! sorry for the tirade - it just sounds like your Dr. is bullying you into a cs for no real reason. they are using scare tactics like"safer methods" to get you to schedule the birth so that your natural labor doesn't interfere with his/her schedule. sorry for the i just hate that a doctor would ever say that a c-section is a "Safer" option when the complications from a c-section can be greater than those from a vaginal delivery.

Love your I totally agree.
Me too! I had my growth sono Friday, at 34 W 5 D. is estimated to be 5lbs 6oz. The only comment anyone made was that baby was doing well. DD was 8lbs 4 oz when she was born, and they told me that "2nd babies are usually the same size or a little bigger, no worries, we are right on target."
But the baby is breech and I am FREAKING OUT about it. have 2 weeks to try and get baby to flip, by itself, if not I will try a version.

My baby is a big girl!!!
I'm a bit annoyed at the thought of telling you you'll need to discuss a c section. DD measured 8.8 two weeks ago, I am going for an induction(I've had two previous successful ones, after 40w) in 48 hours at 39w2d She is estimated to be a 10 pounder now. I'm terrified to do it. My biggest was 8.15 essentially a 9 pounder. My midwives believe I can do it. I've spoken to many woman over the past few days, all shapes and sizes, that have given birth to 10 plus pounders (some completely natural too!). Height and weight have nothing to do,with it, it's your pelvis and whether or not your body responds to what it needs to do. I'm going into it gritting my teeth, but remembering that I need to stay positive. I would never opt for the c section because of her size, did it cross my mind at first, yes, but with research and asking questions it seems more logical to try vaginally first. It is also rare for it to turn into an emergency c section(that is if the baby is in imminent danger), if you are not progressing at that point a c section should be considered. You'll have to trust your doctor for this though and it's your choice, but it seems as though it's more out of convenience. Why not discuss induction if you have shown progress with your cervix before opting for a c section? As a PP mentioned maybe you'll go early because the baby is getting big and it "knows" it better come now before it gets bigger, KWIM.
In the end you have to do what you're comfortable with. Just be an advocate for yourself and do your research.

Re: My baby is a big girl!!!
just wanted to offer some perspective...
With my first DD, the growth sono was dead on, predicting her weight to be over 9lbs. I had a doctor's appt the day after I was due and my doctor asked me if I wanted to schedule a c-section because of the baby's size and that I wasn't progressing. I said that I didn't. Four days after my due date my water broke, I labored for over 12 hours, but wasn't progressing beyond 4 cm. Baby was too big, I was too small. I finally conceded to a c-section and a healthy 9 lb 8 oz baby a few hours later.

My baby is a big girl!!!
I had a growth sono at 34 + 6 and he was estimated to be 5 lb 8 oz... So two days later than your sono and two ounces more. Yet they told me he looked like a very average sized baby, probably mid 7s at birth.
Also, my friend had a growth sono and measured 8 lb 1 oz at 37 weeks. She went into labor that day, had the baby the next morning and he was 9lb 3oz. So they were more than a pound off!!! They are pretty inaccurate.

Re: My baby is a big girl!!!
I had a sono two weeks prior to my due date and they estimated lo to be 8.4 three days later she made her appearance and she was exactly 8.4 lbs. she measured large the whole pregnancy and I am also petite. I will say I pushed for over two and half hours and ended up with an emergency c-section as she was stuck in my pelvis. Doctor had wanted to do a c-section due to size however let me try to deliver vaginally as that was my birth plan. Looking back I should have just had the c-section as I felt like I gave birth twice.

I had my growth at 34w2d and they said the baby was about 5lbs and estimated her to be around 7lbs.
They seemed to think that was right on target.

Re: My baby is a big girl!!!
my baby girl measured 7 lbs, 12 oz at my 37 week appt I was seriously kind of scared!!! I was set to be induced on my due date but went into labor two days before and had her (vaginally) a day before my due date. She was WELL baked and weighed 9 lbs 1 oz (.8 oz to be exact).
The pushing was very quick! I had her out in like 3 pushes.
I am 5 9" but at our hospital orientation, the ob giving the presentation gave birth to THREE 10+ lb babies and she was petite. She said her 8 lber gave her more trouble and that sometimes the bigger babies seem to just be ready and just pop out. So it can be done. They will probably look at your risk factors.
