Hospital Security LIJ VS Winthrop
Hi, All we are newly pregnant. Mu husband has been reading a book that recommends a hospital with an infant abduction system. It looks like North Shore LIJ has info on it's website about having baby tags that activate an alarm but Winthrop only states that they put a tag on the baby but no alarm. Winthrop is closer and more convenient for us so i am torn. Any one with experience at Winthrop on their security?? 1st baby so as you can tell we are already getting crazy!!

Sorry I can't really answer your question, but I always thought that most hospitals have the lo jack system now.

If a hospital is Joint Commission accredited it must have an infant abduction system.

All the ob hospitals in the area have it. They cant get funding without it. They all have systems in place. As the prev. poster said with Joint Commission they need it and all area hospitals are inspected by Joint Commission.

Hospital Security LIJ VS Winthrop
All I know is the nurse forgot to take off my DD's ankle bracelet and the alarm went off as I was being wheeled away. The whole place locked down! Before that, while we were there, her bracelet fell off her ankle (it loosened) and they came running. Before I had the chance to gather the strength to bend over and pick it up, one nurse was in my room. Definitely made me feel good about things!
ETA: This was at LIJ, just a few days ago

Yes. I delivered last July at Winthrop and my DD had the alarm around her ankle.

Re: Hospital Security LIJ VS Winthrop
Any hospital I've visited has the babies "tagged." DD was born in Winthrop in Nov 2010 and had a little alarm on her ankle. If anyone attempted to take her off the floor, they'd sound off. She was with me almost all day, every day, so it was a non issue.

Re: Hospital Security LIJ VS Winthrop
We absolutely have an infant security system. All infants have a locator attached. We also have the addition of not separating mothers and infants unless medically necessary or upon mothers request.
