Solutions for tick woes?
My first post! Thank you for such a wonderful forum. I'm grateful to find you all here!
I am new to LI and am blind, with a bit of vision. I'm living in a small cottage with my fiance, and it has a large backyard. Tiny deer ticks have eaten me quite a bit! Unfortunately, when it's 80+ outside, long pants tucked into socks won't work well, nor can I shower each time I go outdoors in the backyard, which is many times per day. My fiance works and I am home alone, so I cannot see the deer ticks or superteeny deer tick "nymphs." The DEET spray works but smells so strongly chemical, and my concern is it may transfer to my chemically-sensitive cat who rubs against my legs when I come indoors.
Is there a natural spray (for my legs)that works well? Or will only sprays with DEET and harsh chemicals help?
This fall, we will cut back some brush. But even when not near brush, I get bitten. My hope is that someone has some effective natural solutions. Thanks for any guidance!

First off, welcome!!!
I would contact a company that can spray for the ticks. I know they would be able to cut down on them quite a bit.
I probably wouldn't use anything with DEET over an extensive amount of time because that could be harmful for you.

You can get organic spray at home depot or lowes that you attach to your garden hose & spray the lawn. We used it & it helped.

We had horrible issues with toicks in my previous home. We did have someone come spray the yard which helped a lot. There was no smell and actually they are ti ny granules that become active when it rains so they are actually dry when sprayed out.

I've heard lavender can deter ticks. Might help.

Thank you for the kind replies! I will check into Home Depot's or Lowes, it may hopefully do the ticket. Thank you for taking the time to offer input! :)

If it's as bad as you say, you may want to consider hiring a person to come & spray your yard. Do you have deers in your hard? They can also travel via rodents, rabbits, etc.
Also, please, please, please contact your doctor about a Lyme test. You don't want to deal with untreated Lyme!

Wise advice re the Lyme test. Thank you! My fiance doesn't want pesticides on the lawn, but, this is a serious problem. Hoping to find something sorta natural or organic, but I'm skeptical such a product is out there or is effective. :(
